    No worries, we all misread stuff at times. I'm as guilty as any.

    You’d probably be surprised. I know several local outfits that would hire him, if their insurance lets them.

    Not saying he should go to jail. They could charge him with reckless driving, which (in Michigan anyway) is a criminal charge. I read today in the local paper, a driver just got charge with reckless driving when he drive his gravel train into some dentist office.
    I'm sure a case could be made that driving oversized without the correct licenses and hitting a bridge is reckless.

    It just depends. I've seen people do just as bad and walk away with a "slap on the wrist", and I've seen people do far less and get hard time. I guess a lot depends on how good of a lawyer you can afford.

    I took a un-routed 14' 6" load under a 14' (marked) bridge one time. I slowed to a crawl, took the high side, and made it though. Another thing I do, if running high, even if the bridge isn't marked, is look for scratches on the bridge. You see scratches on the bridge, there is a good chance it is lower than average.

    The story is updated;

    If there’s only damage to one beam and nothing to the deck a beam can be frenched in pretty easily.

    sounds like the pole car guy cant run a tape measure. the over weight and size fines will be pretty healthy on this deal. I'm sure their lawyer ed up already only a fool wouldn't remember the bunch that got busted on the east coast with no permit 60k in fines but was drastically reduced when they went to court.

    I don’t know, it’s a older bridge and the deck is secured more to the beams than in newer bridges. It pulled some pretty good chunks out of the deck. Last I heard they were going to have to replace a complete 12’ section at a minimum, but the engineers are still evaluating.

    Bridge engineering is above my pay grade.
