A buddy had this by his shop, cost me supper to own it. I ordered an air D/A palm sander last week. I figured to practise on something the first time to try polishing.
Baby steps: What grit would you start and end with, for sanding? Wet or dry sanding?

How do you get into the small parts, in this case the square cut outs?

Dry sanding and I'd start out with 320, 400, then finish out at 600 grit. You could try that and see how it goes.

Be careful going that course 320. It takes forever to get it all sanded out. Guess it kinda depends on how bad they are.

Depending on how bad they are, I acid wash them first, then start out at 400 and go up to 800. Get a super hard red or yellow buff wheel and start with brown or blue compound. Next step to green with a yellow or white wheel. Finish off with white bar and either a white cotton buff or a white mill cloth wheel.

Lots of work though. Good luck

I use 400 and 1000. If the 400 won't get it I use a scotchbrite on my zip gun. For the holes I've been known to zip tie a scotchbrite to a drill bit.

If this is your first time, I would start out with 400 just to be safe like @snowman_w900 said. It all depends how pitted and scratched up they are. Once I get done sanding I use the brown rouge bar with yellow buff wheel, followed by a green rouge bar with yellow buff wheel. I finish out with a white rouge bar and white buff wheel. That is the process I use and it turns out fine.
