A bull moose will be taller and longer then a horse, but weight wise they are less, like 1200 lbs vs 2000 lbs.
When we see them out in the fields they are easy to spot because of there size and looks.Ruthless, 1951 ford, johndeere4020 and 5 others Thank this. -
Quite a bit bigger, I'd say 6 or 7 feet tall at the shoulder and only 1200-1400 lbs.
I came across a bull moose one night after dark up on Porcupine where we keep the bees and he wouldn't budge. I didn't trust trying to turn the pickup around without falling off the road and didn't want my hood and fenders trampled so I had a staring contest with him and after about 20 minutes he got bored and wandered off. -
Most saddle horses are in the 1000 to maybe 1400 pound range. The trend around here for ranch horses is a bit heavier now.
You have to get into large draft horses to get to the 2000 pound range.1951 ford, johndeere4020, 4mer trucker and 5 others Thank this. -
Thanks @Oxbow for clearing that up, I was comparing a bull moose to the draft horses, but you are correct for most horses weighing in the 1000's.1951 ford, johndeere4020, 4mer trucker and 3 others Thank this.

No problem. I don't want to hit either a horse or a moose with a car!Crusader66, Tug Toy, Feedman and 6 others Thank this.

Neither do I! They are fascinating and interesting animals to watch, but are very unpredictable. They are very protective of their young, which in @sawmill's post that boy had found out. Luckily for him he got away to safety.
You do hear of people hitting moose at night around here. It makes it difficult to see them because they are dark in color and their eyes do not glow very good in the headlights.Last edited: Apr 29, 2018

I didn't know about the eyes @SAR .
I have been face to face with one cow at about 6' distance. I know, you're thinking "How did you get within 6' without knowing that she was there?).
I was clearing for a subdivision road and had a wad of Aspens in front of the dozer. I had to stop and get off to walk around the pile in order to look for the next clearing stakes, and that is when the encounter occurred. Fortunately, she looked at me for a few moments and then turned and calmly walked away as I was carefully backing up and ready to make a run for the dozer. The amazing part was that the noise of the dozer and the crashing of trees didn't spook her away in the first place.Crusader66, Tug Toy, Feedman and 9 others Thank this. -
I can only imagine. The worse thing I ever hit was a hoot owl in on a cold December night coming into West Plains. I guess the hood took his lift away, he hit the right windshield of that 85 hard enough he came through it. Broke the left too. He is layin in the floor bleeding out. Now this is the place where medical training might of helped shoulda at least been a clue if he still bleeding the ####### ain't dead. Bout 10 minutes goes by and he comes too. I ain't sure bout everything that happened next or who wanted out of that cab worse me or him. I finally got it slow enough I pulled the brakes and got out. Even if the truck had run me over it woulda been relief from that ###### owl. He finally gets out and I continue up the street to the barn. First thing J.T ask is what the hell happen to you. LMAO they talk me into goin to emergency room to get stiched up etc. The nurse on duty calls the sheriff's office tells them I been in a knife fight. Deputy dog comes down wants to know about it so I have to tell the story again. He doesnt believe it so I tell him your right sorry officer the body is in the bunk of my ol truck. Another p.o. p.o. shows up to guard me and race off like a bullet. In a little while deputy dog and a statey show up with s possum cop on the trail. Deputy dog is threatening me with filing a false report till i remind him the truth he didn't wanna hear. The state boy and possum cop are bout to roll outta their chair listen In to me and deputy dog have it out. Finally the possum cop tells me I got my ### kicked by a Missouri hoot owl and leaves. Doc stitches me up and I go home with a cold beat up ###. Almost me me quit truckin
