Seems that all my “old” pop culture references get the glassy eyed stare. Kids these days just don’t get good dialog when they hear it.

I've been getting that stare for thirty five years. Some people didn't even get it when it was new. Truth.

So, back to the grind. Cleared the code off this morning and went to Columbus to pick up a load heading to Plainfield, IN. Already preplanned to Troy, OH to pick up a load headed to the caves in Carthage, MO. Set up my off time for May 9-14 and plan on having quite a lot of fun. After that I plan to run hard for 6-8 weeks and then take a real, honest to goodness vacation. Haven't decided where or what yet, but I'll figure it out. Settlement tomorrow and it's going to be a very good one. I'll get those numbers up tomorrow evening.

    More later...

You know BD, just a thought here as this is probably boring to you for a vacation since you live in NC, but the Outer Banks are probably one of the best places, IMO anyway, for a great vacation. We started going down there in the early 80's for about 4 years in a row and just loved it. I haven't been down there in about 20 years now and definitely plan to get back down there soon. I'm sure it's a lot different now as we could see back in the 80's it got bigger and bigger each year we went. Just an awesome place and so much to do and what beats the beach for a vacation. Geez... I just thought of something, last beach vacation I was on the wife and I went to Oceanside, CA back in 2011. Found out one thing on that trip is she will never fly again. LOL. So great excuse to head to the OBX, not a real long trip from here, (western PA) and I know she will love it.

I think we were talking about autos awhile back. I just watched a fella backing one into a sight side back. I will tell you that looked scary when the truck would learch and he would break as he was backing into that spot. But he got it.

Well, the numbers are in and it was, by amount, by far my best settlement yet. It was also, by rate per mile, slightly disappointing. I ran a pretty insane amount of miles in two weeks and was doing very well in the per mile department until the last couple of trips and a boatload of useless miles in California were factored into it. I've also bumped my maintenance escrow up to .20 per mile so there was some impact there as well. For accounting purposes I paid for the injector harness out of this money as well.

So, having said all that it looks about like this.

    Debt Service 34%
    Fuel Cost 38%
    Profit 28%

So here's the takeaway for those trying to learn the numbers. Running a boatload of miles is not necessarily the way to make good money. Yes, my settlement was the biggest yet. I also ran over 6500 miles and due to some poor planning that was out of my control, ran over 300 California miles that only paid Loves for the fuel I burnt. The last 1000 miles, frankly I'd have been better off not running for what it ultimately paid. You can't think like a company driver chasing miles...that's not how it's done on this side. Efficiency is the number one most important thing. Efficiency pays off double. Less miles, more money.

Now, having said all that, I'm still pleased with this cycle because I've spent quite a bit of money on the truck and I needed to put some water back in the well. Would I want to do it this way every cycle? Hell no! But fate seemed to understand that this cycle needed to pay and, ultimately, it did.

    More later.

Because there are other Morehouse O/OS on this site, I don't post specific details about numbers.

I can tell you that while I do track my loaded mile money, total mile money is the true metric I pay the most attention to.

No. He asked about pet miles. Ya know ? Like a dog, that would probably be a one. A dog and a cat would be two. A dog, cat and a squirrel would be three. A dog, cat, squirrel and a cow would be pandemonium. I guess pandemonium is one of those big numbers like a gazillion.
