Anyone ever drive a cabover?

When I first bought that we were all still using straight grade oils,30w summer,20w winter. Wasn't long after the came out with diesel multigrades,first one I can think of is Rotella 15w40,which is what I used religiously,oil changes every 10k,no additives,wasn't many back then. I used to get right at 400k,on an overhaul,do an inframe in my shop over the weekend if I didn't need any counterbore work. Parts were less than 2k. 3 heads recon@200. each,sleeve kits were about a 100. times 6. Bearings,gasket set,oil,filters,etc. another 3 or 400.
During one of my overhauls,I noticed I was losing the facing off of a cam lobe. Put a new cam and followers in,I think the mileage was around 800k. Forgot what that cost,was less than a 1k.
In 1985, I built a new 4300 Eagle Glider,used the engine,trans and driveline out of the 77 Eagle. Just had the itch for a newer bigger double sleeper truck. Ran that truck and same engine till 1997,was running great when I sold it. Engine was 20 years old,had well over a million and a half miles,crank never out of the block,almost no measurable wear. I in frame overhauled the engine probably 3 or 4times, I don't really remember. The black 4300 was my glider I built.

Yes I drove one early in my trucking career. This is the truck and me at the Monterrey Inn in Laredo. I just wish I was that skinny and had that much hair today.

 

maybe I just thought it rode rough because I didn't weigh enough to hold my self down ....... that's not a problem anymore

I remember riding in the Road Commode well. My granddad had one, I rode many miles in the summer. He used to buy a bag of ice for me to put my feet on, the floor board would get terrible hot.

 

It’s been over 30 years since someone called my truck a road commode lol.
She was quite truck with her 335 cummins and her 13 speed under drive transmission and no power steering.

 

I didn't real all of this but I can imagine the responses. All I can guess is that "cabover" is a broad term. I am sure some sucked bad! But my air ride Pete 362 usually feels the same as hood trucks I have driven. I say usually because if you are a abnormally crappy road you will pay for sure! Like I71 from just North of Columbus all the way to Louisville KY and beyond! 3rd world country right now....

I have freezing cold air and I have shut off valves to my heater core that really do the trick! And I still have vent windows! LOL.
