Alright alright alright, we’re back with another episode.
So, been running up to 89’ long total length, just under 11’ wide and legal height last and this week.

I’ll take the last section up to GA from AL tomorrow.

Friday, however, I’m getting my first load for a new site, pick up in AL deliver in AL. Same freight but it’s bigger. Obviously i still have to measure everything Friday but from what I’m hearing I’ll be stretched all the way out plus some over hang. Think I’ll be at 100’ total length, 11 wide or under and 13’8 total height.

I’ll have an escort. First time having an escort. I plan on getting a copy of the route on the permit and giving it to them so they know the route and obviously discussing anything left to discuss. I’ll be doing this for 2 weeks i think same as these other sites. Also, I’ll do my best not to get involved with any of them lol.

Tips, tricks, pointers, gripes, critiques and complaints all welcome. As always, thanks for your time.

No sir, thank you for taking the time to tell me about it and answering all my basic questions.

Saw your picture on one of the office walls last time I was at a terminal. Yard in TN I believe.

I’m enjoying my time here. Everyone I’ve met from the office to drivers has been really cool and helpful.

I think the only 2 things I wish I would have done differently are

    1) started driving in flatbed, although having experience elsewhere was cool at the time.

    2) maybe pulled more general freight to get better at securement before asking to move up. Kinda mixed on this though cause this is what I came here to do.

yeah those boards are so made safety bonuses for each quarter then the biannual bonus. This year's first biannual is second week of July i believe, if i recall.... big if...i think the biannual is based on 1% of all the revenue your truck hauls for the previous 6months.

And as for your number 2, they wouldn't move you up if they didnt have confidence in your abilities.

Don't worry about it. It gets easier when you have a pilot watching your back.

Properly planning things out makes your life way easier.

And just keep reminding yourself that if things go pear shaped, thou shall not panic and do something stupid. That's when things go really bad.

Pilot car is going to walk up to you and start volunteering employment history. How long they been at it, biggest load, know the area like the back of his hand...the usual yadda yadda yadda. Irrelevant. Run this load the exact same way you did the last one. Same trip planning, same everything...the only difference is you’re going t9 hand the pilot car a copy of the permit. That’s the only difference. The thing that really gets drivers in trouble is they let their guard down when they get a pilot car. The hand a permit to a pilot car and follow the escort like a fat rat following the pied piper. Don’t do it. I have never seen a pilot car that didn’t miss a turn. He misses a turn, you tell him to get turned around. You miss a turn, you’re in trouble.

Some times, when you get a pilot car that’s local to an area, he wants you to follow him via “the shortcut.” You’re routed and he starts, “friend, that’s the long way. We could shave off X many miles and much easier and whatnot.”

Remember, it’s your ticket, not his. If you don’t get caught, he has an easy day and is back at the house. You get caught, they’re not even gonna talk to him. So, run that job the same way you did the previous, okay?
