I usually have fries and gravy with that. If I gots work coming up I'll tell em to toss a grilled chicken into the pile next to all that wif salad and sammich fixings etc.

But there is one thing I have never found anywhere in these USA. ANY one who knows how to slice thick roast beef yankee style, bun the stack and a big bowl of aujus. Whatever I find usually looks like it came out of a fast food arbys microwave or something real bad.

I just came back out on the road after a few years running local, and I have say that the quality of truckstop food has really gotten bad.

I will NOT eat at any Country Prides anymore, and even the Iron Skillet is sketchy at a lot of places. Denny's is just so-so, and the only things I'll eat there are breakfasts and the "Philly cheese steak that they have.

In my opinion, anyway, some of the fast food joints are better than the sit down restaurants.

I met a fellow driver at the Denny's in Corning California Love's a few months ago for a bite of dinner. I wasn't that hungry so I just got a bowl of the vegetable beef soup. It was obviously canned but that wasn't the worst part. The chunks of beef were like ground up beef that had been shaped into little cubes (like brown tofu) and it tasted like dog food. I make the dog food comparison because I feed my dogs canned dog food (in gravy) and they use shaped squares of beef that mash up really easy. The meat in the soup was exactly the same stuff. Made me sick just smelling it. Sent it back and told the waitress it wasn't fit for human consumption. She agreed.

This is what everyone with elog needs. For those times you take your ten on a off ramp or edge of a rest area.

You ever notice how the bathroom is right past the iron skillet? They dodthat deliberately. The rule of thumb is to eat there on a ten hr break. Don't walk back to your truck immediately. Chances are it's a long walk back to the bathroom if you siddenls experience the bubble guts, because most Petros are huge. After you eat, wait an hour, then go blow it up. That'll save your clock when you leave in the morning. That being said, I liked that chicken parmesan that I ate that time in Raphine, VA

The only iron skillet I've eaten at that is actually good is Spokane, WA. The worst has to be Rochelle, IL and/or Jackson, MS

Stick with the mom and pop homecooking restaurants..they beat all the big truck stop chains hands down. All chains know how to do is dump the crap out of a can and heat it up..and you can tell by the flavor.its been rolled in and out of the cooler and reheated on the buffet line for a week at a time..all the food is probably full of arm hairs, scabs etc. I am not a picky eater at all but I had to get my money back at a TA in west virginia..the food tasted completely rancid and was inedible. The little I did eat upset my stomach. I did give a new TA a try in Brooklyn Iowa..it was fantastic.. not taking chances on the others though.
