We use AT&T and never had a problem. We have the nationwide plan that has no roaming or long distance, the only thing I don't care for is you have to dial the area code for all calls.

I only have to dial the area code when calling out of my area code or when I am out of my area code.

When I am home, I call a 7 digit number.
