The Tennessee Department of Safety has temporarily closed a commercial driver’s license center housed in Swift’s shipping center on Brooks Road near Memphis International Airport.
Authorities would not confirm whether the probe centers on the commercial licenses issued from the license center on Swift Transportation property.
At that center, state Department of Safety employees administer the written and eye examinations, while Swift personnel conduct the driving-skills tests

The school was not closed and is accepting students, the focus was on the TDOT office on the Swift property. 5000 drivers did not have their licenses suspended, if that was the case that would made the news in Tenn. Don't you think...............?

Exactly.. I just did a search and came up with one article that stated the part time DMV office on Swift's property was closed, but nothing else stating the entire school was shut down, or licenses were suspended.

Just google CDL holders required to retake test. You'll find many stories.

    12,500 CDL holders in Florida.

75% failure rates in GA applicants ordered to retake. Scary eh?

I can't confirm that any of the Millington drivers were ordered to retake the test. I didn't say that ;) But I suspect some of them will be ordered to do so, if they haven't already.

Many states have had license scandals, IL was a big one a few years back. A friend of mine in Pa had to re take his because the third party tester was not fully testing them and he was shut down.

You should not make it sound like this is just a Swift problem because of the raid by the Feds. There focus was on the TDOT office on their property.
License scandals go on in every state. You suspect some of the Millington graduates had to re-take them but you don't know. You can have you opinion but don't make it sound like a fact when you do not have all the information.

License scandals is nothing new in this industry.

You should not accuse people of making statements, they never made. :biggrin_2552:

"swifttrucker228", check the thread on this forum at http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...t/65412-swift-academy-licenses-suspended.html

There have been many new developments since I last posted on this particular thread.

Also, I'm told by my contact at the Millington Academy that a number of changes have been made in Millington to prevent the licensing scandal from happening again, namely, the elimination of third-party examiners and the requirement that students obtain a road test in their home state.

However, the issues brought up in this thread seem to continue to plague Swift graduates as when I graduated in 2007 - waiting at home for weeks on end with no trainer/mentor in sight after orientation. I sat home for five weeks and finally got another job. Hopefully your experience will be better.

Good luck and don't be a stranger! Let us know how you make out! If you have internet access at the Admiralty Inn (I took my laptop), sign on and check in once in a while!

PS: Bring a bank card and make sure you've got some cash in the account - you never know what you might need to buy when you're down there. They still reccommend bringing $150 on the website, but I recommend at least $400 if you can - that way you should be covered. Remember, you're on your own for meals - and you can buy food cheaper in Kroger or Wal-Mart (both within walking distance) than in any of the nearby restaurants.
