3406 high coolant temps

Not really low, with the fuel screws backed out a little 26 to 27 is bout normal. The only way I can tbink to explain what I'm getting at is you can have pressure but not enough volume. So if the exhaust turbine fins were a little damaged it is possible to still make adequate pressure. Same with smaller leaks. Something else is if the divider in the exhaust manifold were turbo bolts on is erroded out it won't spin it fast enough.

 

In that case wouldn't he be getting black smoke also? Or lack of power?

 

Water and pyro raising together I think you either starving for air or over fueling. They work hand in hand. Dirty air filters can run temps up like that. I have seen the inter cooler cake up with oil from a slow seeping turbo do that. If there is slight turbo damage then it could look like it’s keeping up at high rpm but when you back off a second those nozzles are still loading the cylinders while that turbo is being lazy. That b model don’t have sensors to cut off the fuel when the air dies like the e model.

 

Are you losing water? If no your problem is insufficient circulation, slipped fuel timing, poor air flow or a combination of the former.

Put a 185 thermostat in it, check the fuel timing and pull the A/C condenser forward far enough to clean all the bugs off of the radiator and the A/C condenser.

I once drove around with multimeter in the cab with super long homemade leads clipped to the battery so I could chase an overcharge issue that only ever occured while driving
