He may have claimed that, but there's a good chance that story was to cover up the fact that he pulled over on a soft shoulder to take a leak.

As someone who has the jake on 24/7,.. I use it constantly. I think if it were detrimental to the engine I would have had something happen by now.
And even my old Columbia with the BXS ACERT C15,.. has notorious rumors for dropping a valve,... never ever had any issues. Not sure on Detroit or Cummins,.. but the jake in CATs are pretty reliable if not bulletproof.

Ever see a 13 axle schnauble pull on the shoulder to take a leak? 17 ft wide, 200 ft long and nearly a quarter million pounds. With a team of pilot cars.
Don't you think that would be highly unlikely? Or do you prefer to stick with the pee theory?Oxbow Thanks this. -
I've seen plenty of people who should know better do all kinds of stupid stuff. One thing I know, is to never assume that someone won't do something stupid.Woodys Thanks this.

You just shorting your engene life

Why would there be a lack of lubrication? If the crankshaft is turning, so is the oil pump. The thing to watch out for is over revving the engine.

Better than drastically shortening your own when your brakes fail.magoo68 Thanks this.

Thanks that good to know. I run back and forth over Donner daily and have for the last 3 years. When I drove a company truck didn't really care if it hurt or not. Now it's my truck I thought I'd ask.

Have you ever seen a 13 axle, nearly a quarter million pounds in weight, 200 ft long and 17 ft wide with a team of pilot cars, pull over on a shoulder to pee?
If you wish to stick with your pee theory, that's your choice. But have you ever seen a load that big pull over onto a shoulder to pee? A yes or no answer will suffice. -
When the jakes are activated the engine burns no fuel therefore no def fluid is needed to clean emissions since it’s now just a big air pump.. keep your rpm in a sensible area and it’s no extra wear on the engine ...
