I’m not in ltl now. I’m pulling a set of doubles with aggregate. 4 loads a day.

That's the kind of run I want. This 600+ stuff is great for the bank account but rough for just about everything else. No shirt runs at my terminal at the moment tbough.

Yeah, the nice thing with a short run is that you can work extra to make a little more if you need to. I'm currently on another 440 mile bid run. I get a lot of time with the family, and $75k gross a year is plenty for us to live on. I don't create big bills so I don't need big miles. We live according to a budget and I still am able to contribute over 10% every week to my 401k. I could have a $95k bid run but choose not to work nights and actually be around my family.

I see A LOT of OD linehaul drivers in this area during the day. But, the area I’m going isn’t San Francisco so it could and will be completely different. I’d like a daytime bid run but that may or may not ever be a possibility. My wife raises our little ones so driving around for Joe Schmo with expensive benefits won’t work. I like OD for the work available and the benefits are affordable. Nights aren’t appealing but I’ve done them and we all need to start somewhere I guess.

So start times for linehaul can be any hour of the day/night correct?

Bigger hubs/breakbulks at nationwide carriers can have a wider range of start times, so the OD/Estes, etc guys might chime in on that.

I'm at an end-of-line (non-hub type) terminal at a regional carrier (Dayton Freight) and all the linehaul runs at my terminal basically start at 9pm (one is 8:30, one is 9:30). It seems like that's the general ballpark for our terminals in my area. It might be different in other areas and time zones, though.

We have around 120 schedule runs at our terminal (a break bulk). I'd say 2/3 of them are night runs, with the majority starting between 2000-2300. Currently we have about 180 linehaul drivers.

As another person mentioned, daylight linehaul isn't common. Across most companies and terminals, it's typically night shift for linehaul and daylight for P&D. Most of our cherry daylight runs go to the top 50 drivers.

    Air Cooled Thanks this.
