Oh, and you need probably 100 amps charging dedicated to it. I have a 2x4 that runs in the mid 80s amp draw. Those 6 pills draw up to 20 amps at max saturation but probably more in the 15 amp range depending on your wiring and voltage so 100 is safe.
Using ###-kicker amp.....

Here’s a video of how not to do it. Running a single optima yellow top battery and probably a stock alternator. That 2x6 will draw up to 130 amps or more. That farad cap under the bench seat is supposed to prevent voltage drop, but it does nothing when you are underpowered.
If you have three batteries, add a fourth. Ground the amp to the batteries, grind some paint off and ground the battery it’s connected to at the frame. Put a meter on it and check reflected power coming back to the radio. Less than 3% is ideal. Make sure antenna has a good ground and you will be good.snowman_w900 Thanks this. -
Speaking of anntena, I'm running a Wilson 2000 now and it does fine, but as I step into bigger power I'm wondering if I should upgrade to something else?shogun Thanks this. -

I can see where people would get that impression...But back in the day, this was not all that un-common as builders didn't want others to copy their work...I seen amps where they would take the covers off caps so no one could tell the value, and scrape the colored stripes off resisters...something else you don't see to much now days is builders running ground straps across the transistors.
