    Update a little late:
This was a relay load that I was getting and was doing my pre-trip when I noticed the rails.
I had called my dispatcher. They referred me to maintenance. They told me(after my very long-winded description) that 3 pins is OK. I then called my boss, and refused to take this 45,000lb load anywhere. I offered pictures and she accepted. She then emailed the head of maintenance and he flat out said that this trailer should have never been moved from the shipper. 2 previous drivers handled this load. I am the only one that saw it.
P.S. I do carry a sledge, but it can't fix everything.

AModelCat, KB3MMX, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this.

Your head of maintenance is a smart man hopefully he shows the guys who said it was good to go that every time you hit a bump trailer will lift off the chassis because clamp isn’t holding the rail .. great job on your part questioning the defect and folllowing up on it

The clamp it self is not really the issue. The issue is the frame is bent and no longer fits in the clamp.

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

No one mentioned the side clamp being out of place. I'm currently dealing with that issue.
At first only 2 pins were locked, I was finally able to get all 4 into place, but the side clamp is still out of place.

Is his side clamp a DOT violation?

Do you mean the piece that is responsible for keeping your axles attached to the trailer? Dot violation or not, why would anyone pull a trailer down the road like that.

The rail did that because somebody did not re-engage the locking pins correctly. You can simple unblot that bracket and let the trailer settle into place, then rebolt the bracket correctly into place. I had a trailer at IWX do that to me at a shipper in Visalia, CA. Took about 30 minutes or so. A mechanic should have no issue.

Well hell, the railroad would call that a perfectly good tire and slap it on a chassis
