Yeah too many people think it is a picnic to run up to Alaska. Even in good weather the trip needs to be planned carefully. There are not many places to stop and eat and shower. Most of the fueling is done at "Card Locks" and not all will take your fuel card. Finding places to park for the night is pretty simple on the Alaska Highway as there are plenty of pull offs and rest areas but Alaska is another matter altogether as places to park are few and far between. What amazes me is how cheap some people will run up there for. They don't seem to realize just how much it would cost you if you breakdown in the middle of nowhere, and there is plenty of nowhere up there or God forbid have a accident. The tow bills can be more then the load pays! Winter is a altogether different matter because if you are not properly prepared you can lose your life up there if your truck was to quit running for any reason.

Just got a nice $15000 run from Cali to Alaska, easily pays for round trip. Got another broker offering me a trip back to Denver for a crappy rate, like $1.40 a mile, but I will have to hang out in Anchorage for three days to wait for it. Still worth it probably, instead of deadheading for a week. Anything fun to do in Anchorage? Any idea where I could leave my truck for 3 days? Doesn't seem like there are a lot of truckstops there...

Poor JustinTrucker, probably nothing but a half-eaten skelleton now; been over a year and a half since he was seen here.

The good news is you do have a backhaul to Denver. The bad news is you have a backhaul to Denver.

I'm thinking he's living in an igloo now, chewing on seal fat and rubbing noses with his Inuit wife.

Lol, yeah, I know what you mean. Not a great area for loads. The beer factory kills everything with their cheap heavy freight. But we should be alright, I usually manage to catch something decent on the load board, especially if I have like the whole week to hunt. It helps that my girlfriend drives too, sometimes Denver gives up a decent team load.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
