Let me tell you what happens. Those salary jobs will work you to death and run you at all hours. You may have 4 or 5 short runs that are all drop and hook. Paperwork at every one. Shift your tandems open your doors. Close the doors . Get back and do a few live unloads. You will never get on a routine, and be mentally tired all the time. The day shift dispatchers will play tug of war with the night shift because each wants credit. You will get a retired road dog to drive local.

Exactly. And the external forces are;
1. Foreign driver influx
2. Companies that make money off training
3. No OT required after 40 hrsLast edited: May 14, 2018

There are others on this Forum who say the same thing. Would you mind explaining the reasons behind your statement?Bob Dobalina and Mike_77 Thank this.

You missed one. The federal government providing grants to carriers for training new drivers in order to meet this driver shortage.
-
It means if you believe that, you're new enough to buy into that company and govt BS, which means you're part of the influx...i.e. part of the problem.

Google Bloomberg business driver shortage. Article written recently that there is a shortage of 280,000 drivers. They can't be that mistaken.

according to the mega carriers there is a driver shortage .... losely translated that means we can't find drivers that are dumb enough to work for us.. so we need the government to subsidize our training and now the overall unemployment rate is effectively 0 it is getting harder to find recruits so there answer is to lower the age to 18 ... or recycled drivers. .... the immigrant problem both legal and illegal has a negative effect on frieght rates and driver pay......the overtime pay or sitting pay are basically a pipe dream and in the long run will not mean any higher pay for drivers as it will just get deducted from somewhere else..

I've never been somewhere and been told they were unable to get their product on the shelf because they couldn't find a truck driver to haul it there.
So where is this shortage, exactly? Someone please tell me where to look because all I see is all the work still getting done. Someone educate me.
