Nice car. I have a 96 z28 lt1 all I can afford with two young kids, mortgage and all that good ####. Still it's fun to drive handles well and has t tops, an option no longer available on any car at any price.
BEWARE of WERNER!!!

I think they call Werner big blue screw for a reason. We employ ####### no experience required lol
-
Didn't screw me. I made good rookie money there. I tell everyone to get on that TBC account in Memphis. Best thing going for a rookie.
-
What is tbc? I have no regrets leaving Werner for a local gig, when you consider what my expenses would have been otr I make pretty close to the same.

I think it's a joke as a new driver that we're forced into these megas to get started. Why can't us clean record, clean, no drugs drivers get on with the good companies? because we haven't proved ourselves? What a load of crap. Not all of us are fortunate to have a foot in the door, know someone in the business to recommend us or have perfect employment records. Just saying.

I a
I agree. Old ways of getting into trucking have changed. Insurance companies and HUGE lawsuits, and settlements are partially to blame. But all is not lost. A friend of mine now is 67 yrs old. He got into trucking like 4 years ago. He started with werner and took a lot of beatings, the stories he has told me. They don't care about many of their drivers. If any? He toughed it out, and now with a flatbed company, and really does like his job. He is gonna stay with them, think he only had a year with the "big blue screw".Rocknroller4 Thanks this. -
the system is unfortunately setup that way, otherwise these crappy megas literally would have almost no one driving for them. they say you should stick with your first company for 2-3 years LOL. i bailed from that mess at the first chance i got. looking back, i don't think i regret it; where i work now is not perfect but its better then werner. i couldn't even imagine OTR for 2-3 years, i guess that's why a fairly large percentage just quit trucking completely after a couple of months. i had and have no desire to quit trucking, i just choose to pursue local work. im sure if i wanted to i could do some transport work (at the same company i am at now), but im pretty happy with farm pickup
my current job does offer some major advantages
1. home daily
2. set route, i know where i am going pretty much at all times. i have 8 farms i visit and one plant i sometimes go to
3. my boss knows me by name, he is not bad to deal with
4. no ELD
5. money is ok, i could make more if i wanted to working 7 days. i would rather work 7 days and be home everyday then leave home for 5 days a week.
im staying where i am at for a while.
im not 100% sure how my boss deals with the insurance issue. he told me as long as you have a few months of driving AND you can prove to him on a roadtest that you at least have safe basic driving skills AND can shift...... your hired. does he take people right straight out of school, NO. does he require years of driving.... definitely NOT -
Simple, I am not willing to take the risk involved with a rookie driver. My insurance requires 2 years minimum verifiable and I require no less. This is my livelihood, how I and my drivers each support our families. You may he perfect in your eyes, but there is no way I am putting anyone's life or income in the hands of a rookie who thinks his stuff don't stink.

Rocknroller4 and jbatmick Thank this. -
I feel like dollar store accounts for companies should require a year at least. Not someone out of schoolMexTrucka909 Thanks this.

I don't know that anyone is forcing you to work for a mega, or anyone else.
Me, I went to driving school back in the early 80's, had a hard time getting a job. Took employment with a company called TransAmerican, from Grand Rapids MI. They sucked, quit after a few weeks. Worked factories, warehouses, turned wrenches for about 10 years.
One day saw an ad in the paper that Central Transport was looking for some local drivers. Inquired, filled out the app, jumped a few hoops, and was hired. With driving school 10 years ago, and less than a month with TransAmerican as my only experience. Turns out I was one of the few who could pass their drug test!
There are plenty of companies that hire students, that aren't Werner, Swift, TA, etc. Do some homework, check out local manufacturers, LTL companies, etc.Rocknroller4 and nightgunner Thank this.
