How much does my trailer empty weigh

‍♂️ I need to appologize, when you originaly said 3 compartment hiel i thought you were refering to a pneumatic bulk tanker.

 

an empty 43 foot smooth bore is about 15,000lbs. i think the compartment trailers are a little heavier but less than 20,000. my bobtail weight is 20k, and my tare is always 35somethingK. maybe 36k with a compartment. just scale your bobtail one day after you fill up the tanks, then on the way to a load another day scale with an empty (with full tanks again).

I usually run 31 and change with an 8,000 gal empty smooth

 

We always used the rule of thumb: gravity +135 (daycab) or 130 (sleeper) is the number of barrels you should haul to remain at legal weight. But all our trailers were 200bbl single compartmemt.

Using the attached chart you can calculate the amount of weight you're carrying based on the gravity and the amount you loaded.
