Hello, I'm yet another newbie. I live in Warrior, Alabama with my wife, and 3 kids. I just got my cdl's from a 6 week course, have no restrictions, and have NT endorsements. I have no criminal history, accidents, and my last job was regulated by hours of service, but I have no tractor trailer experience.
I have been researching for about two months, and have applied mainly local companies. These companies after going in person, and calling aren't giving me a shot to prove myself. Don't hurt to try right? So, I have decided maybe weekly hometime is my next shot. Ct transportation, mcelroy trucking, werner and schneider trucking all have offered restart time at home weekly. I know little about CT, Mcelroy sounds good, but Im concerned about miles and short haul, werner has an DG account and I'd hate to ruin my career early trying to get in some of those lots, and then Schneider, home depot account, possible weekly hometime and restart. My only concern there is, will they live up to that? And how is the pay? Customers? ETC.
I'm open to suggestions, ideas, and comments. If I have to go to a two week/restart Id prefer that to be my third option.
Some things I would like is:
1 on 1 training
Paid training/orientation
Paid Travel to training
Would like automatic trucks, but I can shift ok.
Southeast/Midwest routes
Company, I wouldn't have to abandon ship for awhile if at all.
I prefer to haul 1) dry van 2) flatbed 3) reefer. In that order. Heard reefers are loud and people cut them off. Lol
I thank you for your attention and responses in advance.

Just wondering why do you need training, you have a cdl, right?
-
Most companies do there own training. Its either team training or solo with trainer in seat. I don't consider someone in sleeper, worthwhile.

His school was probably like any other. Taught him just enough to pass the CDL test. So, he most likely has no real world experience in a truck. Some folks could just jump in and take off. Others can't or don't want to. I respect him for wanting the training if he feels he needs it.Trucker61016, Brickwall and austinmike Thank this.

Go to a construction company and try them. Sand- gravel, cement etc etc.

I have no real world experience, and don't want to be just a steering wheel holder. I have tried local construction companies for class a dump trucks, but they want insane amount of experience.
RustyBolt Thanks this. -
If you want a trainer and or trainer company to get you on your way, then more than likely you'll have to do otr with the funny companies- Swift, Werner, etc etc. , or find a Exp driver to team with and try it that way .I hate to say it but Schnieder fors have some good trainers if that helps, but you'll not make much money, that i do know.

think he may be referring to the on the road training learning the delivery process and of course getting more practice backing onto those awkward docks.Lav-25 Thanks this.

Keep knocking on doors keep asking and your persistence will pay off eventually. Another idea and its how i eventually got my foot in the door with the bigger companies is put you name down with one of the temp agencies most of the mega's will call them up if they need a driver to fill in if someone calls in sick for a day or two this is a great way for a company to get a good look at your skills and is way better then a resumeTrucker61016, Brickwall, Odin's Rabid Dog and 1 other person Thank this.

Try Raven Transport headquartered in Jacksonville,FL
They do hire some recent cdl school grads.
From all indications it's an excellent company and seems to have what you want.
Trucker61016, Brickwall and Lav-25 Thank this.
