Steer Tires: Cost per Mile

My best steer tires in cost per mi have been the:

Yokohama RY617
150,000+ mi
$380 (Current Price)

Michelin XZA3+
200,000+ mi
$450 (No longer available)
Replacement XLEZ $495

I haven't used the Michelin XLEZ yet but if it last about the same as the XZA3+ it should be about a wash in cost per mi with the Yokohama

Continental HS3 would run me $400 which would need to go over 160,000 mi to match the Yoks and XLEZ (If it last Iike a XZA3+). I've been hearing good things about the Contis but what kind of mileage have you been getting?

Any other suggestions?

XLEZ = X Line Energy Z
It is the replacement for the XZA3+.

 

Mounting cost my time. I use Centrimatics and dont balance.
It's basically a trade off of Capitol Investment vs Time Investment.

I think Michelins ride a little softer and Yokos seem to be a little grippier in the wet but it's not a big difference either way. Not like the old XZA2 Energy which would "push" in a wet turn.

The only steer tire I have ever punctured in almost 30 years was due to a bad grate in a parking lot (One grate dropped down in the drainage channel when the tire rolled over it and the adjacent grate sliced the sidewall). They paid for the road service call and replacement cost.

I'm trying to talk .myself into the Conti HS3 Eco because I'm.hearing it wears almost as.well as the Mich but cost only slightly more than the Yoko. Only way to find out is try it I guess.

 

Nice to know that about the Firestones. I have a set of the FS591 on one truck right now but they only have 40,000 miles on them. The problem with Firestones is they fluctuate a lot. I would have to pay $100 more now for them than I did 4 months ago.
