hooperjay, Just wanted to say good luck in your search. While I have no valueable input regarding those companys, I do suggest and keep in mind this is just a suggestion or at least what I have found anyways. But I have hauled everything except a tanker and the most enjoyable I found was flatbed. I am not much of a fitness kinda guy, and when I was dry vanning I got absolutely no excersise at all. But when I flatbeded man I was lean and trim from the chain throwing and the tarping. PLus I found when flatbedding you always get something unusual freightwise. In a dry van its always the same ol, same ol. I enjoyed the challenge of tying down various loads and such. Anyways bud just a little "food for thought"
Once again hope you find one that makes you and your family happy.

i think the unimaginalbe has happened. i'm still in cdl scool, and had submitted an app to werner, even after reading some of the stories on here. not sure why, but my app was declined, will maybe find out next week. i do have pre-hire letters from stevens and usa express. not the top of my list for wanting to work for them, but i gotta start somewhere and sometime.

being single, home time is not a problem, don't have any big bills to cover, so i can stay out and it won't hurt anything really. i'm thinking stevens would be a fair tho not the best place to start, and rotten meat not with standing (perhaps a gift of some of the same to a dispatcher will convince them not to make you wait in it for two or three days), i'm willing to do my time and pay my dues, as long as they treat me decently. i know things are not always going to be beautiful, dm's are going to be less than helpfull, and the various flavors of cops, inspectors et al, are going to be a pain in the back side.

with two weeks left in school, i'm looking forward to getting out of retirement, and starting something that will give me a chance to see if not visit a lot more of this big counrty of ours.

Try and find out about the reason But dont give up or let it get you down. As for Stevens and USA read the Report a Bad Company before going to them. I think you should look into Roehl its a great comp from what I've heard and read here.

sorry to hear you got turned down, but there was some sort of reason. however, they don't need to tell you what that reason was. i've been rejected a few times in my career, and when i'd ask why, i got the standard "we aren't allowed to say why".............. that urked me to no end, as i would appreciate a reason so i can correct something if need be.

in all, don't let it get you down, go with another company, you may end up doing way better.

however, if any other company turns you down (don't forget, you've only been "pre-approved"), then you really need to delve into this problem. there may be a case of mistaken identity and someone has your social security number/ID and is creating problems for you. do a credit check on yourself too, and find out if your credit is damaged.............

I would leaf through the Bad Company section for info on TMC and Werner if I were you. I posted my experience with TMC, and if you would like to live long enough to see your son grow up then they probably are not your best bet. Just my opinion, sorry if it seems harsh.

Be warned that with the dollar general account you will probably be required to unload every box from the truck.

At least with TMC you know that the most that you have to lift is the 80 pounds of tarp once or twice a day. I also don't think that everyone will have a bac experience at TMC, but I do acknowledge that ####y's experience may have been accurate. Remember that it is up to you to log and work legally, don't let ANY company force you into something.

thanks for the replys folks, i'm not disheartend by being turned down, and believe me,i've been reading about the different companies. i know someone that drove for kllm at one time in the past and it is supposed to be a pretty decent outfit. close to where i live too. i've also applied to many other companies, tho swift was not one of them. i'd go local hauling rocks before i would go with them.

life is what it is, and if something in my app was not good, oh well, i'll try to find out what it is, fix it and try some more. could be i didn't have proof that i've done nothing but live off my military retirement for the last 6 years too. i did send that to stevens after talking to the recruiter there. if anyone else called while i was in school, i didn't get the call and nothing has shown up on caller id. being gone from the house from 05:45 till till 17:00 i miss a few calls during the day. also have filled out apps online for so many compaines i can't remember who i did and didn't apply to. so i've printed them out as i do them, i think i'm running out of ink becuse of that, lol.

naturaly this is only part of the story. not everyone tells everything. so i'll keep on trying, and get to work one way or another. maybe not what i want at first, or with who i want, but with experiance and a good record, i'll be a more desireable quantity, and the better jobs will be there. just have to dig sometimes to find the one that suits both me and the employer. i don't have overly high expectations, i know the first year won't be the best, runs are going to be less than the best, and i have to prove myself. all i ask the chance to see if i have what it takes to be a good, safe driver. and that chance is somewhere out there.

one more note and i'll end this, i'm getting my hazmat endorsement to begin with, and for any other newbies out there thinking about it, it may be the key to getting home a tad sooner. if there is a load headed toward home and no one else close has it, you take the load and head home. they sit and get routed someplace else. so don't hesitate to get it. not all hazmat loads are deadly. it might be a load of soap heading to a distribution center.

take care and good luck ya'll, and be safe.
