hi everyone, i have been reading a lot about ELD systems both here and via google search. It appears that an ELD does not have a capability to log IFTA miles? I seem to find secondary software that can do this but no direct ELD that does. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you still log your IFTA on paper or some other system?

I don't trust it, myself.CT Brooke Logistics Thanks this. -
My TransFlo ELD does IFTA logging. The system was $149.00 upfront which was refunded to my Love’s Rewards Card, for the device which came with a wire / plug harness. It was a painless plug and play installation then $20.00 per month which is also refunded same way each month. So it is pretty much free for a 6 month period. The IFTA logging and all the rest of it works great!

Might stem from inaccurate compilation of location, for instance, giving a location in Michigan to locate a point in Indiana.
Only used 1 so I can't say that is normal for all of them.
Employer requires odometer reading at state borders, we do the same paper work except RODS. I keep paper as a journal. Unsigned, unless needed in place of ELD per that rule.
Every couple of weeks I get a message of a degrade due to the device not connecting to the cloud for over a certain period of time, it needs a 3g connection, it's hard wired and uses no phone or tablet to read.CT Brooke Logistics and Bank_Lbr Thank this. -
Log it on paper, I use a sheet that I found on the IFTA website. Only accurate way I have found to log those miles. I use one sheet a week, at the end of the month I record those miles. Takes all of the pain out of losing a computer file or a hard drive failing. And you have real hard copy records.

Thanks for the responses! My boss is a fan of technology and as we look to buy new trucks he wants to make sure they are equipped with the latest and greatest. One of his questions were about the ELD ability to log IFTA. I have seen units that do it, not convinced its a replacement for paper yet.

The location function is normal. This is by design.
Per the mandate: The location listed (while on-duty) is a 5-mile radius around the truck, with a proximity to the nearest municipality, with a population of 5K or more. The radius extends to 10 miles, while in an Off Duty Status. Keep in-mind, this is typically going to be bouncing off of Cellular Towers. If the signal from one tower is not "up to par" at that exact moment, it will pull from the next one. So, the locations being recorded may fluctuate, even if you're in the same position.brian991219, 25(2)+2, CT Brooke Logistics and 1 other person Thank this.
