Minnesota title

I am a new BCO with Landstar. I went with Landstars plates and am trying to title my truck in Minnesota but to do that according to the state I have to have Minnesota plates on it. Is this true? How did others from Minnesota solve this problem?

 

Ok, I went to the license bureau in Apple Valley, and they told me I had to have Minnesota plates. They arent the most reliable people to talk to (they are actually a franchise and not an actual state office), so I called the driver testing station in Eagan and the guy there said since it was registered in Indiana (I have the Landstars Indiana plates on the truck) I would have to get the title in Indiana, and he gave me the number. So I called Indiana, and they said I couldnt title it there since I wasnt a resident. I called Landstar in JVille, and they sent me to permits and they said I should find a state I could title it in...

So I called the DVS in St Paul, and they had me go to a DVS office in Eagan (not the testing station, and another franchise). They told me they could only get me a "Y" plate which was only good inside the state of Minnesota and if I needed the one to allow me to go where ever in the country then I would have to get that in St Paul. So I called Landstars permits and told them all this, and they said if I had to get Minnesota plates I could just send back their Indiana plates and they would pro-rate the 2200 it was supposed to cost.

So with that in hand I went to St Paul, so after jumping through about 20 hoops I ended up in the DVS office in St Paul, and the guy that the counter there said I didnt have to have Minnesota plates since I already had Indiana plates, and instead of paying $5500 in sales tax on the truck like I figured, it cost me less than 56 bucks total.

Lesson learned that I should never have to know again! lol.
