The requirements for dispatcher will vary from company to company. I have 20 years behind the wheel and i got local dispatch becuse of it. But Ive only got 9 trucks under me, but no college. Its possible, dont under estimate the power of experience.
I don't think I should drive anymore. Dispatchers?

First off thanx for your service! I was having some problems similar to you because I had 4family members die in a short amount of time and it got to me the doctor gave me some meds for anxiety and they made me worse so I went back and explained everything and he changed meds and now I’m feeling better. You might try sitting down with your doctor and see what they say everything’s confidential , it might b worth a try good luck
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Yes, by all means, go have a scheduled, one hour sit-down with your Doctor, and lay it all out for him.
I'm sure if you frame it so he understands it's an 80,000 lb. missile, and I'm no longer comfortable driving,
he will either make changes in dosage or change meds all together. For HIS safety.
If you feel like you're "not safe," you're not.
Good for you - getting on here and asking for opinion/help/comments.
I used to get frequent killer migraines before my blood pressure meds.
I pulled over one time and just sat in a clear space for awhile, a cop came by the other way,
20 minutes later he stopped - coming back my way, and asked if everything was all right.
HE was the person who suggested I get my blood pressure checked, I did, and all that went away.
Personally, I'm not sure driving a desk is your solution either.
Reminds me of the addicts who move to a new place, for a fresh start, and take the addiction with them.
I believe the key is your doctor. I would do the "come to Jesus" meeting with him, to impress upon him the gravity of this situation; it's not just your safety, but those on the road around you that is in jeopardy.
If he's any kind of a Doctor he will react accordingly.
Thank you for your service.NavigatorWife and RockinChair Thank this. -
Getting the right meds for you is a bit of trial and error. I went through the same thing.
I agree you MUST speak to your doctor about this immediately. Like others said, lay it all so that your doctor has the whole picture, then you work it out together.
It IS possible to drive a truck while on antidepressants/antianxieties. But every case is different, and you need medical help, not forum help. Good luck!NavigatorWife and rolls canardly Thank this. -
Hi Ducktart... I’ve been taking Sertraline (Zoloft) and Wellbutrin for years, and am lucky to not have the side affects you describe. However, I was prescribed Trazadone years ago to help with getting to sleep- perhaps it may be the culprit for loss of concentration?
Regarding meds for “demons”... hang in there with your doctor and be willing to try other combinations until you get it “right”. We all deserve to feel “normal”, and there is no shame in using prescribed medication if they help... good luck.NavigatorWife and slickWillie1980 Thank this. -
Ain't no shame. I'm on clonazapam and some other stuff I don't take they prescribe. While my driving is limited to hopper bottoms during pickin' time I refrain from taking those while driving. Something about a 359, Hummin' Cummins, 6" straights, and a nice heavy load is my medicine for the day. Good luck.

Thank you for your service. Perhaps you could change medications to something that doesn't affect you physically and mentally. Talk to your Dr.
AS for dispatching, I tried it and learned to REALLY wonder how some of the drivers I had on my board got a drivers license much less a CDL. Dispatching is VERY demanding mentally and trust me you'll need to be on top of everything.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
