Thanks for the advice but you are a dinosaur. My company and my trainer told me autos are better at everything so I will put my faith in the automatic trans thank you. How can I not....I've never driven anything else.

An automated transmission and cruise control are two very different things.

And FWIW, I've only got 70 or 80K miles on CMV'S. I didn't know that makes me a dinosaur.

Then why did you bring up cruise?

It doesn't. Clearly my sarcastic wit went underappreciated this time

I was going to same the same thing as others. You don't use the cruise control or engine brake on ice or slippery roads.

Drivers got into the bad habit of using engine brake going down hill all the time or no one ever told them how to go down hill without one.

LOL@ "wit" and "this time." I can play that game too but I won't.

I brought up cruise, because used together, correctly, an automated tranny and cruise control can be very efficient. But the driver still has to drive. And think. And know the limits of himself, and his equipment.

I disagree that automated trannys require only a steering wheel holder.

The driver is still fully responsible for the vehicle, 100%.

One of the things I enjoy about driving is shifting. I have bought a car because it had a manual transmission, and turned down one (stupidly) that didn't have. If I had an auto truck, it would make driving almost no fun for me. If someone felt that way about a manual, who am I to tell him or her she needs to drive a manual.

I have to partially correct myself. Some Class 8 rigs DO use juiceboxes, my mistake.
