I reckon.... hahah. and totally agree with you. As a matter of fact, I have given Christmas gifts to all day and night load planners and dispatchers. :biggrin_25519: Yes, and to other people at co. too. Try to keep good relations with everybody there. And it has helped me sometimes. Except with MY dispatcher. He is very hard to please. Didn't even thanked me for the Christmas gift....:biggrin_25512: Well, that's ok.... once I get at Chatt, I will get another dispatcher. I just had enough of him. Had one partner that left the co. because of him.... I have been putting up with a lot from this guy. He is non-communicative, never available, non-accessible, forgot to pay me more than 300 mpt miles, sent me to customer when there was no set appointment and just wasted over 24 hrs of my time and said it was a misunderstanding.... there's more but I will stop here. The guy is either a j*&rk or incompetent or an ##s or all the above. And I have been doing an excellent job, never call him, always on time if not very early, don't get lost, don't reject any load, never question anything, don't ask to go home and when I did, I asked when would be a more convenient time FOR HIM to send me home. I always maintain good communication via QC... but he is sooo dry :biggrin_2552: and so unhelpfull.... I have much better communication with other dispatchers (substitutes and such than with him) So, got name of his suppervisor and will request another one. :yes2557:

    YuP!
My very first dispatcher was a bit of a ding-bat.
But as soon as I became a driver trainer, I was put on the same board as the I/C's, and one of the best dispatchers.

    Twue story -----

On a dispatch to Boston, there was a little time to spare to do a little exploring. Low and behold!
I found a bar named "Cheers".
From the TV series of the same name.
It's a REAL place --- been there for years.
    Imagine that.

Anyway, I saw a collector bar glass with the
"Cheers" logo in a display case. One of those glasses some mixed drinks are served in, ........
and on impulse I bought it with her in mind.
    I don't know why.
    It just felt right.

I gave it to her the next time I was in town, and she got all misted up, and asked "How did YoU know?"
    Know what?!
Get this, I didn't know her FAVORITE TV show, is Cheers.
    Never misses it. Every episode.
And that she collects shot glasses, and has many.
    I didn't know that either.
    Imagine that.

    Now imagine this ---
About 18 months later, when I just happened to be at the office,
I was introduced to her son, and he asked her if I was the one who gave her that glass that's waayy out front of all the others.
    The answer was yes.
    How cool is that?

Now another thang to imagine, especially for me 'cause it really happened.
Same dispatcher, not long after receiving her glass, I had a trainee with me from the greater LA, CAL area, and was bummed about her favorite hairdresser movin' all the way up to Idaho ---
Coeut d' Alene to be exact.
Told her we never go there. I never had, anyway.

Got a filthy load outta Ohio. Beer and soda can --- scrap aluminum. Don't know where it's goin' yet, just git-under the trailer.

    Muddy, wet, smelly cans.
    In MY clean trailer?
    Should I be mad?
    Hmmmmmmmmmm

    Where's it goin'?
    Guess what?
    YuP.
    To where we never go.

And while there, go ahead and have the Big truck AND trailer washed, inside and out.
    Probably take hours.
    And it DID.

My trainee went to her favorite beautician, and I relaxed in the Restaurant, and just enjoyed the scenery.
That was a very nice wait for both of us.

    Coincidence?
    I sure doubt it.
    Good Dispatching?
    What are the odds? :biggrin_25525:

Ok Rocks I think I am starting to figure this out and hope it helps ya out. It seems that each week they take all the experienced new drivers that want solo runs and evaluate them, only the ones they think are quailfied get solo runs. Swifty got the shaft and has to go teams, but she did say that like 3 of them did actually get solo runs. Sounds kinda screwy but I can see the company's stance on that, but seeing how you been here a while cant figure why they would give the solo run to a new hire. So there it is hope all make sense. Still sitting in chatt. waiting on my trainer.

    Latest update.

Team Redcoat made their drop in Chicago on time. However, apparently the roads were so bad (either that or there is something wrong with the suspension on the truck) that the front bumper came loose. Redcoat said he didn't get any sleep last night because all he heard all night was BANG BANG BANG every time they hit a bump. Since he couldn't sleep, he got up and took it the last hour into Chicago after they stopped at a truck stop to get the thing fixed. Some bolts had sheared so that's why the bumper was hanging loose and banging every time they hit a bump.

So they get to the receiver and the guard tells them to go find a yard dog to tell them where to put the trailer. Redcoat pulls in and waits...and waits...and waits while they totally ignore him. Finally his patience runs out and he blocks one of the guys in to ask him where they want the trailer only to be told to put it anywhere.

After dropping the trailer he goes into the office, walks up to the window and the lady (without looking up) mutters, "Other window." Oops. He had forgotten his place. That window was for the 'regular people.' He was supposed to go to the peasants window.

So he walks back down the stairs, around the corner to the back and up the other stairs to the wooden ledge to talk to the SAME LADY as before.

Needless to say, when he called me this morning, he was in a VERY foul mood.

They have another load to pick up, this one going to Ohio. I didn't want to tell him about the winter storm headed that way. I figure he'll find out sooner or later. The are supposed to be at the shipper at 1300 so they have a bit of time to eat, shower and maybe a quick nap since he didn't get any sleep last night.

They drove 1296 miles from Washington. But they're only getting paid for 1221 which is 75 miles short. Which reminds me. Was it Rocks that mentioned something about claiming those extra miles from your taxes some how? Does anybody know what the deal is on that? So far he's driven over 600 miles that he hasn't gotten paid for so I'm kinda curious if there are any tax advantages with that if you're a company driver and not an O/O.

    The saga continues....

    AfterShock Thanks this.

Hey RC.....kind of one of the negatives about driving truck, no, you can't claim the unpaid mileage. BOL to RC

Glad to know RC and his team partner are doing ok. And that they are rolling :yes2557: It was a driver who told me he has been making notes of all the unpaid miles to deduct those on his tax return. Will have to ask an accountant.... not sure about that either.

I have been reading this thread.Redcoat is a strong man.I think you should look into driving for an expediting co.after you survive Covenant. You could drive a streight truck or small van.The co. I drive for uses them. The job would allow RC to be more comfortable driving expecially backing. He would have more options on where he could eat due to driving a smaller vehicle.I think it could be a better fit for him.I am pulling for you. GOOD LUCK THINK POSITIVE

Kinda bored here, and tired of these freezing weather freezing hands and feet. I'm still in PA on I-80. :biggrin_2552: There was nasty snow storm last weekend. Now another cold front is coming.... I miss nice warm sun, dry roads... this is the very first time in my life that I drive on snow and have to go through this experience.... country I came from is tropical and warm.... :biggrin_25519: And always lived in southeast of the US. It has been a REAL challenge and learning experience. But I'll survive. I am solo right now. Co. wasn't able to route me to Chatt to get a partner they said I HAVE to get one.... I was in Houston, TX two weeks ago, when my "wonderful" dsp said I had to get a co-driver by the end of last week. So I said, ok, route me to Chatt then.... and they sent me to snowy, freezing ##s PA... I knew what was coming... now here I am.... wondering when I will leave this freezing land :biggrin_2552:

    HeY Rocks!
If you're cold, ---- come to SoCal.
Today will be in the mid 70's --- maybe warmer.
It's a tad windy, but the skies are crystal clear.
    HaiL!
I can see all the mountains from my front door.
Should be even better at the Ontario truck stops.

    OH!
And the rest of the week is forecast to be more
    of the same weather.

    Bummers, ...... HuH? :biggrin_25525:
