I was offered a driving job with a mom/pop milk hauling buisness. They have 4 trucks. Im new at trucking. I got the job if I want it BUT, the pay is $12.50 an hour and what the call "Spiffs" ($20) for waiting at the processing plant. The hours are about 50 hours a week. Nice trucks, nice people. They tell me thats the "farming industry". Should I do this just for the experiance?? Then move on in 6 mos?? It is local and all day time work. Home every night.
Please help me out with this one

JMHO -
No kidding! I'd snag something like that in a heartbeat if it was offered to me!
-
I'd jump on it.
When you do the math, you'll make more than a lot of OTR drivers are making now. As you won't have OTR expenses to deal with.
Of course, the big guys won't recognize it as OTR experience. But who are they anyway?psanderson Thanks this. -
he's probably assuming that $12.50/hr isn't much money. the first local job I tried out for (about 3 years ago) offered a whopping $9.50/hr to deliver (and hand unload if necessary) lumber. if you drive regional or OTR, plan on aout $7-8/hr or LESS.

If you don't have anything better, go for it. The nice people and trucks part is worth a little too. And that experience thing Bronc talked about.
At least it's a decent job. More than some people have these days. -
If I were YOU I'd take if I were me I'd be looking for 15 >.>

Well, Id like to get more money too. Hell, $12.50........Yes, O/T over 40 hrs. I was thinking just like all of you. I also have an interview Wed for driving a straight truck, $16.00 an hour......####, I want to drive the big truck.

I would give up $120 a week, for a guaranteed job. You will eventually get a raise I assume.
