I’ll use my Ranger mic, I had heard that Cobra had went to a Chinese board and weren’t as good and that the Uniden still had the old board. I was looking and it looks like they don’t make the old 78 anymore.

Out shopping at Wally World with my wife and happen across this parked right behind us:
Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Avio. 1 of 250 made. I was thoroughly impressed. My wife was not. Lol.SAR, Crusader66, Tug Toy and 11 others Thank this. -
I mean compared to like a typical fast food burger joint? Fantastic. You’re gonna pay more obviously — but it’s worth it.It doesn’t beat Five Guys to me though...
I will say Fudds offers a lot of speciality burgers. And they have Bison/Elk burgers which are super good.SAR, Crusader66, Oxbow and 7 others Thank this. -
Let me be clear about one thing: I’m no radio tech. Just a tinkerer. I can only speak from my experiences.
Having said that, I’ve owned and messed with a lot of radios since I’ve been truckin. Over the years, the Cobras have held up as good as any. I’ve got one of the new style 29’s on my dash as we speak. Had it for over a year. Like @shogun said, it has an extra board to run the digital face and it’ll probably be the first thing to go out. But the main board looks to me just like the Cobras I’ve always messed with. If they’ve switched boards recently, I didn’t know it.
I do know the owner of the company I’m leased to recently bought a bunch of Unidens and they all have the new surface mount boards. Totally different than the old stuff. I don’t know how well they’ll hold up. May be better than the old ones, I don’t know. I do know that the stuff on that board is almost microscopic and would take a dang steady hand and very small tools to work on. And probably a magnifying glass. Lol.Last edited: May 19, 2018

Guess I have been extremely lucky. I have a Connex 3300 with a Road King mic, I bought it new in 1991, been in the shop one time for a cleaning and tune up. I probably just jinxed myself!!!SAR, Crusader66, Oxbow and 9 others Thank this.

It’s around 60 wires of soldering and unsoldering if I remember correctly on that CPU. That and the board costs $40 or better, so labor included makes it a tough cost to justify. I haven’t had any SMT stuff fixed, but it’s tiny, and difficult to solder. Even putting a top gun modulator and speech compressor in my 6300 was a little aggravating.Crusader66, Tug Toy, Oxbow and 6 others Thank this.
