Looking to install 12k BTU / 110v split system to be powered by Honda eu3000 generator. Anyone done this instead of rooftop unit? Thought this might be more efficient and easier to install since there would be no roof reinforcement necessary. Any advice (ESPECIALLY PICTURES) is greatly appreciated.

I thought about it too. Have one in a house. But it may be not strong enough to stay alive with all that shaking

Not on a truck but on my storage container, really simple. Follow the instructions, make sure you secure the lines so they don't move around and mount the compressor unit on the sleeper.

SnailExpress over at Rawze.com has one on his Volvo. He has not had any issues with his that I know of. He will be over here at Rawze's house tonight or tomorrow, I'll see what he says if I remember to ask. Or, head over to Rawze.com and ask for an invite, and PM SnailExpress yourself. He did do his own install and has quite a few posts over there regarding just that.

It helps if you already have thread holes for fairings that you could tap into. Then you could build your mounting rack based off those deminsions. I got my blueprint pretty much from snailexpress too. Took about three days and some guts lol... guts to drill holes through the truck that is

My generator could use a bath. But got a pretty nice aluminum box from KSH that has the pull outs for exhaust and front control operations. Had to modify it a little so I could change/top oil off on the field.

Folks, thank you so much for the responses. In your opinions, am I better off I stalling a split system or should I cut a hole in the roof of the sleeper and use an rv-style a/c ?? Thoughts / comments ??

If it were me, I would go the split system if you have the room in the cab for the internal wall unit. I know it will freeze you out of the cab, a bit overkill, but much better than hacking a hole in your roof. If you run the South and or SW, a split unit would be the way to go. If you are up north, I would lease a Tri-Pac and call it a day.

If Snail makes it today I will ask him about his for you. He was supposed to be here yesterday but was held up.

Big thanks!! I was thinking the 9000BTU instead of a 12kBTU unit would suffice just fine! I do want it to run long enough to dehumidify and not just cool.

Snail called here last night, I'm at Rawze's place right now, he runs down south here and he should know. And he has had his unit installed for quite some time now. I'll find out what he has and let you know. And I will ask about dehumidifying the air in the cab too and his thoughts on which unit to go with.
