No, your numbers are also accurate for small package. I made 51k my first year.

That's how I got on with them. I put my head down, I went in every time they called me, and I busted my ###. You have to keep your eye on the big picture.

De Trucker and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

This is not the case in my city, at least. The two companies are considered completely separate, and are both so short of drivers that sharing drivers seems to be discouraged.

Good. My wife is a nurse, and we definitely take my insurance over hers.

My father in law has a management position at BCBS and our(BCBS UPS) plan is way better than his.

He says they periodically look at different plans from employers etc and see how they can save money and will implement changes. But when it comes to the Teamsters plans, he says they aren't allowed to mess with it.

The only job postings I have seen in my area were for UPSF city drivers. To be honest I would rather work the docks than do city P&D work. Pretty hard to jeopardize your CDL or even job if you are loading and unloading trailers vs fighting city traffic and blind siding off the street into tiny docks.

I have no issue doing either though if it gets me in the door and on the ladder to a linehaul position.

My recommendation would be to just do whatever you have to do to get in. It's worth it.

That is a very good strategy. However, with UPSF, if there is a linehaul opening, you can just apply for it; There's no need to work P+D before being "accepted" for linehaul, or "work your way up the ladder."

Now IF, you wanted to work at a particular terminal and they had no linehaul openings at the time, but they DID have dock and you wanted get in the door so that when a linehaul run opened up you could be in a great position to get it (bear in mind we go by seniority), then that is a very good strategy.

The only current opening is for a "Dockworker with CDL". To be honest, I'm having second thoughts about it since I posted earlier. I dont mind doing dockwork (Did it for 20+ years before i started trucking) but for how long?. Months?, years? To get behind the wheel in a city P&D job I don't want in the hopes that i build enough senority to get a linehaul run before I reach retirement age?.

Maybe if I was in my early thirties rather than my late forties it would be easier to make a downward move and start over again.

At my terminal, they actually have a hard time filling road driver spots. In fact, in my area, the UPS terminals overall are hurting for cdl drivers, both p&d, road, and feeder.
