I am currently in school to obtain my CDL, and have applied to Trans Am.
After ones training is complete, and they are waiting for a truck to become available, does Trans Am pay the person during the time he is waiting?
I would hate to finish several weeks of training, only to find out that I had to wait for several weeks to get a truck assigned to me, and would have no income for that period....
Is that the case I am facing if I go with Trans Am??
TransAm wasn't too bad!

You will continue to get paid $50 a day for sitting and waiting for Your truck. For any newbie that is coming to a company for training, any company, try to pack as light as you can and bring only what you need. 2 people in a truck is pretty close quarters and these KW's are small. Please remember that you are in his/her truck for training and that it is their home. Their rules apply.Talk about what the trainer expects BEFORE you get in and if you can't live with it, tell training and get a different one. 3 weeks is a LONG time to be with someone you don't like.
D'kota, sorry but never met your husband. Finally got a truck and with getting it worked on and moving in, just didn't have the time. If T/A can only keep me as busy as they have to start out, I would be a happy camper. Have done 1200 miles in 2 days and hopefully, will be dropping today. Not supposed to deliever till Mon., but it is a drop and hook so have hopes I can do it today.
Fleet managers, remember that you are NOT their only driver. They will have 60 or more that they are managing. Quite a responsibility for them and they are on the hot seat getting it from both sides. They also have their problems and it does pay to be nice no matter how frustrated you might be.
A hint, ALWAYS keep track of your paperwork and keep copies. They will try to screw you if you don't stay on top of them. Don't know if that is this company, all trucking companies, or just the private sector in general. I came from working a state job for 24 years and always knew when I would get paid, how much I would get paid, and what the pay would be. Talk about culture shock.billsgirl and pinballwizard Thank this. -
Its hard for me to say whether they are a good company or not. Have nothing to compare them to and know that the economy is affecting them also. They have lots of cost cutting measures going on right now like getting rid of all the 800 numbers except the main one, can only get truck washed once a month now and that done in the terminal that you will seldom see, etc.
Miles, well sometimes their good, sometimes not. A lot depends upon the shippers and recievers. Meat plants-you could be waiting up to 3 days, recievers- have had them take anywhere from 2 hrs up to 9 hrs to unload. Then they have to have a load for you., etc...
BTW-my truck color matches my eyes and I've been told that I am full of it many times. Guess the color?
pinballwizard Thanks this. -
Did you get a purple truck? lol
-
next I get I want the purple T660
-
Sure didn't. gave a purple Freightliner for this ###### brown T600 that matches my eyes. Woo hoo. Only problem with the truck is that it belonged to a smoker. Any hints on what to use to clean the steering wheel with? Hate scratching my nose and smelling that nicotine. Trying to find my clorox wipes but truck is still a mess from moving in. Everything on the top bunk at the moment.
Delievered my load in Denver early and wondering how long I'll sit here waiting for a load?
Thumper, when you get a purple truck, going to call yourself the Purple people eater? Get teeth for the front grill?Last edited: Jan 11, 2009

Looks like TransAm is going to start getting the newbies rolling, From what I've been told they didn't start a new recruit class this week. Somebodies using the head! My husbands now number 8 in line for a truck, They flew number 1 down to Texas today to get his truck. Supposedly theres 15 trucks getting ready but that don't mean all will go company newbies, some will go lease and some company drivers who are switching out.
So it's stll a guessing game. Rumor has it it's costing TransAm 11,000 a week to have all these guys sitting waiting for trucks.
I'll keep you updated as I hear more.billsgirl and pinballwizard Thank this. -
d'kota, have him read that handbook while waiting and know it backwards and fowards. Will save him some grief later on down the road.
pinballwizard and d'kota Thank this. -
my hubby has been in Olathe since Nov.23. He's done with everything now he's just sitting waitting on a truck i think he's # 4 or 5 on the list for a company truck!
