They tore a page from the "Cuckoo's Egg". An excellent read, by the way.

My dad was charged eleven cents by the EST Company. The 800 number on his credit card statement was answered: "This number has not been activated. Would you like to activate it?" I searched the Internet and learned many people experienced the same charge, and others were charged about $10 with a different fraudulent phone number. The eleven cents was refunded and we canceled the card.

The EST Company traced to some purchases my dad had made involving software and website services. They sold domain names. The company had been de-listed by the non-profit quasi government operation that controls the World Wide Web after a couple of their executives were sentenced to jail. We assume that some of their partners are still out there. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...c-connection/59162-est-credit-card-fraud.html

It's easy to see how they could make a fortune with this. Who is going to take the time to dispute twenty five cents?

Well, actually, I hope we ALL do.

It is amazing to me, that people do not actually keep receipts, and check them against their credit card statements. I mean that is just so basic. It is like never leaving your keys in your car, or you home unlocked. . .

Sign the back side of your credit card(s).

    HuH?

That never made ANY sense to me.
If the card is stolen, the thief knows what'cher
signature looks like, --- and copies it.

You can bet if there's a dispute, and the signed receipt is checked,
the credit card issuer will tell y'all that the signature
    LooKS like y'all's.

    DoAH!

January 2006, I broke my right wrist. It was in a cast and I am right handed. Can you even imagine what the log books looked like?

But as far as credit card receipts went, they never questioned the difference in the writing or checked the ID. Really makes you wonder.

Instead of signing my credit cards, I put "Please check ID" in the signature spot. So far, I've had a grand total of ONE clerk ask to see my identification.:biggrin_25510:

    WhEW!
    That's a relief.

Big truck truckers don't think California should be a part of the Country ---
Now's a good time to agree.
    If not, -----
I reckon California can issue you an I.O.U.
Just like everyone who lives herein, California.
