As long as the state shows it is valid when the cop looks it up, it really isn't that big of a deal. If a ticket is issued, it will be dismissed simply by providing evidence that it was providing proof (copy of the license, copy of the MVR, etc...) that it had been issued and was valid at the time of the stop.

Does she have any idea of where the license was lost? Maybe she can think back and make a couple of phone calls. When did she last have it?

I'm in general agreement. I have seen this done. However it is important to remember it is at officers discretion. This is another one of those dang grey area's. Most states have laws making it a crime to actually drive without the actual document. I once got a ticket for not having an insurance card in my POV. I had insurance but forgot to put the card in my POV. Hopefully this will work out good. So far I see good advice give.

Those "no insurance" tickets work the same way. Provide proof that you WERE insured at the time of the stop, and it gets dismissed.bottomdumpin Thanks this.

Not in Tennessee. Don't have proof of insurance your car is towed.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

If you are from Georgia and get stopped by any Georgia cop once they run your car tags they know if you have insurance or not because insurance carriers are required by Georgia law to put insurance information on a state computer database. In fact some cops won't even ask for the card. If my memory is right I think if your car tags come back no insurance the cop can have you towed there too.NavigatorWife and 06driver Thank this.

I just posted that to highlight different states respond differently.
Florida will hold you until you have proof of your license. Nice little catch 22 down there.
No idea what Pa, Va, NC, SC, or Tn (depending on route taken) will do if she gets stopped with a copy of her license.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Illinois can tow you, too...but the MVR points, $500 fine, and 1 year DL suspension won't happen as long as you provide the court proof that you were insured just lacked the proof on the side of the road.NavigatorWife and 06driver Thank this.

Anyway back to the OP I really hope this has a good ending.
06driver Thanks this.
