This would be an easy way for a city to generate revenue, just change the weight restrictions on a road leading to a major shipper.

 

Revenue generator for the local courthouse. The fine will probably still be up there, but if it goes like I believe it will, nothing will go any farther than the courthouse.

 

One of our drivers got caught in a situation like this. The consignee was literally just a mile pass the exit. However from the off ramp to the drop point there was a weight restriction. The police would wait for trucks and give them a citation. It was in Michigan I believe. Crazy.

 

Now that I reflect on it hmmm.....set up!

Sadly, no. Google Maps has no provisions for such things. The only thing Google Maps can do is show you signs in street view, which are often blurred and unreadable at the edges of the images. But even a truck-specific GPS cannot be trusted implicitly on local streets and by-ways. Had one try to run me under 12'9" and 13'2" bridges because it didn't know they were there. Then it 'warned' me about a 13'8". WTF?

As far as a GPS, not trying to sell you any particular model, but I had the best luck with a Garmin deZl 770. Rand McNally 720 was trash after about nine months. Even beta updates from the manufacturer couldn't fix it.

I don't guess most companies will fire you over that ticket.
There is a saying good results come from good judgment. The important part of the saying is good judgment comes from bad experience. When making decisions think about what could go wrong and how you will explain the bad results to the boss or the cops.

I've been very lucky in that I have had more close calls and gotten away with some things that other drivers get ticketed or fired over. I try very very hard to learn from those and never repeat them. Many people take every bad event or close-call as proof the universe will protect them or they are only in trouble because the authorities don't like them.

 

In this case I am not sure the cop has to. I can't say anymore until I actually see that charge.
