Hello, I will be turning 21 in a few months and I want to get into a trucking school, but I have so, many, many questions I hope y'all can help with.

I see my main two options are Springs Truck driving school and US Truck Driving School. Does anyone have experience with either? What is the best school in all of Colorado? Denver is 70-90 miles from me so if I go there I have to stay there, and I have no money for room and board.

What kind of financial options are available to me? I have no credit history. I have heard about grants and loans. Are these feasible? How hard are they to get? I also heard not to sign a contract, and pay for it myself but I can't do that outright, I don't have 3k to drop on a whim like that.

What kind of post school work will be available to me? I know a lot of companies hire at 23. I have a spotless MVR, not even so much as a speeding ticket. I have heard US Truck partners with Schneider. I have heard really bad things about all the megas. I want to do OTR, but I absolutely do not want to unload or work with the freight or do any physical work outside of the norm.

What are the best local OTR companies to work with? Can any Colorado drivers chime in?

    Thank you in advance

Don't listen to all the crap about mega's being bad to work for. Many of them are ok, but some people just won't "man up" and be mature and patient when starting a new career.
Signing a contract isn't a bad thing; millions of Americans would love to sign a contract knowing it gives them employment for the next 12 months.

But i've heard the contract makes it so you get awful pay, and aren't smaller companies generally better?

Paying your dues ... Is the agreement you and the company have that includes paying back the schooling at a reduced CPM rate up to a year or what ever the terms are. This is LEVERAGE the company has over you to fulfill the agreement. Years ago a mans word or signature was his bond and he fulfilled the obligation.

Smaller doesn't mean it's better. The two worst companies I've ever worked for were those mom & pop small operations. I prefer the medium to large companies. Just because you might sign a contract, doesn't mean the pay is bad. For example, Jim Palmer Trucking has excellent pay and requires a 1 yr. contract to attend their cdl school.
W.W. Transport in Denver (Commerce City) hires new cdl graduates from private cdl schools and their paychecks are really good. Don't know the age requirement, so give them a call and ask. Minimal manual labor, if you consider hooking up a hose and monitoring an air pressure gage manual labor. A couple of drivers that post on here say the pay shown in the ad in correct and true & sometimes more than that.

United States Truck Driving School in Colorado Springs looks good. It's 160 hrs. and they will finance the tuition if you need to. Two month deferred re-payment plan.
    Student Loans & in-House Financing

In-House financing may be available to qualified students directly through United States Truck Driving School. Financing decisions are made at the school, which means we can help get you financed even if other places can’t! Students can get started with very little up-front costs, and a 2-month deferred re-payment plan!
