Maybe they run it to keep the batteries up if they are using an inverter for TV, laptop, etc. But yeah, when it's time for sleep, 63 outside is great weather and I would shut the truck down.

And if the trucks beside you are idling and their air systems are popping off every 40 seconds.
The heat from the engine, even after it's shut off still radiates heat into the cab. Unless you sleep with your driver & passenger side windows all the way down, you get about the same airflow in the trucks using vent windows as you would get in a closet. You're likely parked between two other truck which block the wind from passing through the truck.
Idling gives a more consistent sound level inside the truck than listening to brakes being set, air systems popping, and the truck races around the truck stop.
My sleep is more important than the cost of the fuel. The people I don't run over the next day agree with me.Trucking in Tennessee Thanks this. -
It was eighty when I went to bed last night. Truck was idling and the air was on. It was sixty something when I got up. I didn't get up to piss last night so truck ran all night. Not gonna get out of bed to just shut off the truck.

I think it would take a lot less effort to just find a good company that you don't have to deal with this BS ....and get a good nights sleep because they're not too cheap to buy a APU
