90% of my GPS usage is for instant distance remaining reference, and for observing upcoming streets for reference and turning guidance in the "last mile" phase of the trip. With that in mind, I want it always on and in easy view. I tried running them low in the windshield, but then my view of the hood mirror is obstructed if in the corner and I feel it's too much of a target for picky scale guys looking for a reason to guide me to the back if it's mounted low and towards the center.
In a Freightliner Cascadia, I really like the high outside corner. This may be part of the reason the cup doesn't hold well for lengthy periods ... because of the increased curvature of the windshield there but it's a problem I prefer to deal with as opposed to any location alternatives.

I've always found Garmin's mounts/suction cups to be infuriating.
-
Might help to buffer out some of the major bumps and if the suction cup does fail, should hold it up and keep from falling down hard onto the dash area

archangelic peon, ArcticWolves and 417bigK Thank this. -
That dash cam gps is going to suck.. Can't believe they went back to that way.

I put mine in the corner and let the dash help.

With as many states having issues with devices mounted to the windshield, I'm surprised that adhesive disc mount isn't the standard (or at least included in the box) anymore. -
