90% of my GPS usage is for instant distance remaining reference, and for observing upcoming streets for reference and turning guidance in the "last mile" phase of the trip. With that in mind, I want it always on and in easy view. I tried running them low in the windshield, but then my view of the hood mirror is obstructed if in the corner and I feel it's too much of a target for picky scale guys looking for a reason to guide me to the back if it's mounted low and towards the center.

In a Freightliner Cascadia, I really like the high outside corner. This may be part of the reason the cup doesn't hold well for lengthy periods ... because of the increased curvature of the windshield there but it's a problem I prefer to deal with as opposed to any location alternatives.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

I've always found Garmin's mounts/suction cups to be infuriating.

I did a minor mod to my big screen Garmin setup. Had a mini bungee lying around and used it as a support and fail insurance. Wrapped around the mount arm once then hooked into the A pillar trim.

Might help to buffer out some of the major bumps and if the suction cup does fail, should hold it up and keep from falling down hard onto the dash area

    Because of camera placement or...?

Never had one come lose. You have to wet them.

I put mine in the corner and let the dash help. 20180508_140719.jpg

My 465T came with an adhesive disc to mount to the dash. When that GPS finally quit on me, replaced it with the 570...still using the 465T's mount...just had to swap the clips on the ball mount from the one that fit the 465T to the one for the 570.

With as many states having issues with devices mounted to the windshield, I'm surprised that adhesive disc mount isn't the standard (or at least included in the box) anymore.

If I do that, I can't see my hood mirror [in a Cascadia] unless I jack the seat ALL the way up. Nope. I rely on that mirror quite a bit.

I was lucky. On that KW it was OK, but on a FL it will block. I had to look out the door before pulling out.
