Running below the minimum speed limit is a valid hazard.RockinChair and 4wayflashers Thank this.

I have an extended weight permit for OR and it has a stipulation that flashers must be used if you’re 20mph under the limit. Other than that, I don’t use mine unless there’s something going wrong.
-
I run with my flashers on all day every day. Even when I’m at a truck stop for the night. Can never be too safe.

90% of ALL. I know you've been driving more than minute. If I could put 20000 of these
on my 6 story mobile building 90% of ALL drivers wouldn't notice. -
4 ways are annoying. All the newbies run them for miles on end if its snowing, raining, fog, sun in their eyes, saw a moose, looking for moose....if you can't figure out slow traffic on a incline you should not be out here.
kylefitzy, bottomdumpin, Lonesome and 4 others Thank this. -
It's not for you and me. We both know and can see a slow truck ahead. It's for the soccer mom that is putting on makeup or texting or whatever. Oh it doesn't prevent the collision, but it limits liability a bit.

Not really. If the state prohibits using them while moving, and you've got them on in the travel lane while moving, you're in violation of the law. Hell, Werner was just hit with a $90M judgement against them for an oncoming vehicle losing control, crossing the median, and hitting them...in their lane...and their driver never lost control even after the impact. Werner didn't violate any laws or regulations...only some vague description of a publisher's interpretation of what might be found in a CDL manual (which the jury was denied the ability to see). Point is, injury lawyers will find something, and if you're operating in violation of the law you're toast. Even if you're 100% legal, you're toast...but at least you'll stand a chance at having it overturned on appeal.

If everyone has them on pulling a hill at 40-50mph then how do you differentiate yourself from the rest if you’re having trouble? Breaking traction in the winter being one example. If I’m pulling a pass in the winter and have my flashers on then it’s in your best interest to not be right behind me, because when I spin out then you’re going to spin out too.

Talk about a contradiction. On the new Freightliner Cascadias, turning on the hazards starts the self destruct timer sequence so I try and avoid it except in real emergencies. When I go to some place like a Walmart to deliver, I just hold a flare outside the driver window and this suffices but I do get some strange looks.Last edited: Jun 3, 2018
