The reason for using satellite is you almost always have coverage. Roehl is putting a new unit in some of the trucks called the "Truck PC", or so I'm told. Apparently this unit is capable of using cell phone towers for the actual communication, along with the satellite. Using the cell towers is MUCH cheaper to transfer data. And now the guys who abandon their truck and hide it in some barn are going to have to work a little harder at it.

And no, they can't change the governed speed from the QComm, at least not on these trucks.

The last time I know about is when I was in a loaner truck and the guy who was supposed to be assigned the truck was waiting for it. I was there at the Gary terminal and saw him driving around--just had a feeling he was waiting for that truck. Apparently dispatch told them I had been sitting at Lake Station for 3 hours, when I had already dropped, sent in my relay messages, parked his truck, signed off the QC, signed on my QC, hooked to the trailer, transferred equipment, and parked at the Gary terminal. I hope they don't judge our performance by what their computer says I'm doing.

But that was some good Fazoli's I had in Lake Station. Got it to go, was in and out in 15 minutes (slightly less than 3 hours).

Yeah the qualcomm is usually off on your location. Ive arrived at shippers an sent the message on qualcomm saying I was there then get a message back saying why are you sending arrived at shipper when your are still 200 miles away. Send free form back "I am sending arrived at shipper because I am at shipper !!" Get message back oh........um well it still shows you stopped 200 miles away send the message again in a half hour or so and see if the qualcom catches up.. To funny. Also heard a story from another driver saying he put a bucket on top of the dome to block the signal for some off reason, when he was at a rest area right by a lake, the company sent out police thinking he drove into the lake because he disapeared off the system right by a lake...

This has happened to me before as well. One time we were running late and while my office i work out of via Schneider can track us, they usually dont unless we are late. Well I got on the road and about an hour later, they asked where I was...it showed them I was still at home, lol.

OH, no, the driver is not charged for any communications with the company.
However, if you were to use it as an email device to stay in contact with your girlfriend, then YES you will pay for it. To use it as an email device between you and your girlfriend, you will need to get a loaded card, and that money will go fast.
Qualcomm's are tattletales. Your company can use your Qualcomm against your log book. So, make sure you put your correct location in your logbook, because your company may check one against the other.
    And, so forth.

This has been happening way more often now when going into LA for some reason. I keep getting messages saying I'm 80 miles out. I think it's because I usually stop at the Pilot in Hesperia, CA for coffee then the lag sets in and continues to show me at that location so by the time I get to the customer they are nagging me to get rolling 'cause I'm 80 miles out. It's usually hard enough to get them to use that anyway, but still it just makes me bust up laughing.

in a nutshell. u hav to read what msgs r sent to u. if u cnnt do this then u must tell yr trnr.

qualcomm charges your employer a fee that is rated by how many characters are used.:biggrin_2551: the comp is based in san diego,Ca.
you can GOOGlE qualcomm to get any info you want. but to be honest with you. its easy to operate, respone or receive.

it also tracks your movements, if you are not comfy with the big bro type watching over you there are still alot of comps out there without the QC:biggrin_25519:
