Just a couple of thoughts. We ran into some similar issues a while ago. ( I dont recall what vehicle years ) I was told by a Navistar Tech. Rep. that 10 -15 degrees difference across the radiator was normal. Less than that showed not enough airflow across fins. More than that showed internal blockage in radiator, and poor flow allowed it to cool more. ( in rad. not in block ) The other problem we saw was that when water pump failed, the impeller would dig into front cover. It does not take much wear to impact coolant flow, and this would typically show up when weather got warmer, not so much in winter. Good Luck, please keep us informed.

I am also having the over heating problem. Thanks to all for posting questions and answers. I want to try cleaning the radiator first. My thought was to rinse the radiator fins from the back of the radiator, forcing the dirt out the front. How about spraying with Purple Power first? Anyone ever removed the hood for better access. If so, what's the best procedure to get the hood off?
