401k? Or pension?

Not all pensions are tied to the company.

 

I'm not sure I said that. I said the monies belong to the company and they set up how it is handled. Now by CBA's some pensions are handled by Unions. However the basic concept is the same.

 

I talked to 3 financial planners that told me not to pay off my house because I’d lose the deduction. I was on home time so I had my now 9 year old son with me. He was 8 then... he’s something of a math genius admittedly, but he’s still 8. I had him do the math for the planner. By continually paying interest rather than investing that same amount of money at a 10% average return, I was going to lose millions at retirement.

Conclusion: my 9 year old son can give better financial advice.

That said, I did enlist a planner to find me proven mutual funds with certain parameters and risk profiles.

NOBODY should be making financial decisions for anyone else. I don’t give a #### if we drive trucks or sack groceries. Their job is to teach you about investing. At the end of the day, it’s our job to learn to invest and invest. And if we aren’t rich at retirement the fault is entirely our own.

 

NOBODY makes my decisions. In my case at the risk of another vulgar comment my advisors have made me MILLIONS since the 80s. My advisors spend a while and advise me of the ups and downs and leave the final decisions to me. Knowledge is power. Back in the 90s I lost almost $300,000 because of a bad investment. It happens, I did not cry about it. we wrote that off learned from it and moved on. Just as there are idiot drivers that should never drive there are also idiot's that do financial planning that should not be allowed to operate a cash register. However people have go to stop using extremes like this. If a pension works for you that's good. If a 401K or IRA works for another good for that person. However I do not have to justify what has worked for me as a method to beat down someone that did it a different way. I'm very happy with my investments and have been looking at maybe buying some silver. California is thinking about mandateing that solar cells be incorporated into the building of new homes. Silver is used in making these cells. Not sure what I will do. This is an example of things I get texted about at least 1 time a week.
