I got a 5 year felony and really need a job. I live in california and really need a job to take care of my family.I want to let people kno that just because you have a felony does not mean that you are a bad person, just that you made a mistake and now you have to live with it so thats where I am at right now I have three years clean and sober and want to provide for my family like my parents did and there parents did. If anyone knows of a company in Cali that will hire me please let me know. thank you

I got mine 41 years ago & it is still an issue. Maybe you'll be luckier than me. Before computers I was able to forget it, not anymore.

I've been turned down by many companies because of some felonies from 1987. :biggrin_25510: No criminal history since that time 22 yrs. ago.

People don't seem to care if you're a different person now. Most companies are just looking at what the paper says... They don't care about the details.:biggrin_25510:

It's kinda like buying a car...They just look at that magic number...They dont care about the details............:biggrin_25516:

It would be nice if they would look at the persons track record and then make a determination.........:biggrin_25510:

    Hmmmmmmmm.........................................

I never even commited a crime, was never tried and convicted, I was arrested over 3 years ago for a Failure To Appear at a CHILD SUPPORT hearing I knew nothing about! It shows up on my background as a third degree felony! I was just fired from Werner because of it! Now I feel like I paid $6,000 for a CDL I cant use!

After reading quite a few of these situations about felons. I'll say this...(which I'm sure some will blast me for).

It's the economy folks! Plain and simple...

Think about it, all the larger companies(Werner, Swift. etc etc) are currently being VERY selective in their hiring policies. Almost ANY blemish can/could disqualify you.

On the other hand, consider what will happen when things(the economy) pick up again:

These same companies will be FILLED with blemish free, yes men(or women)... That think a week of hard running is 1900 miles w/3 or more days sitting at truck stop. Many will simply be incapable of doing back to back 3,000+ mile runs if they are required too... and they will drop like flies.

What then? People with a blemish or two(within reason) on their record, that can actually DO the job(flat out, get 'er done). Will have their choice of companies.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

You can never go into Canada again either. Knew a guy who was supposed to fill a load w/1500 lb more of Potatoes in CN and they turned him back because he had a DUI (a felony in CN) 20 years earlier when he was 16.

The May recruiter told me they were cherry picking drivers while the economy and freight are slow...:biggrin_25516:

Even when the economy does pick up, you'll find that most companies will want the felony to be from 7 to 10 years old AND that will be from when the sentence ended. Bleak picture I know but as felons, thats what we have to look foward to, being discrimanated against the rest of our lives.
BTW-i now have 9 yrs clean but they (companies, insurance) could care less. i got very lucky and got hired just before the economy sank. May not be getting paid much and may be sitting but I was able to get my foot in the door and hopefully have no where to go but up. Good luck in your job hunting.
