I recently bought a Peterbilt 351 as a project and it has an old NH 250 Cummins in it. I am debating wether to fix up and keep this motor in it or repower it with a newer NTC 350 or 400. One of the things i want is jakes and my truck does not currently have them. I know that the 250 is an 855 ci same as the NTC but i dont know about the heads and stuff if they are different. I know there are many benefits to upgrading to the NTC but i am not sure on all the technical pros and cons to that swap.

The 250 isn't the NH series, it's the NC series, which is the same as a 335, 350, etc. There are some difference in a 290 and big cams, but essential a 335 is a 250 with a turbo and a small cam is a 335 with an after cooler, hence NTA , turbo aftercooled.

Jakes no problem but a standard 250 does not have piston cooling nozzles. Not advisable to but a hair dryer on one.

NH-195,NH-220, 5 1/8 bore,743 cid.,no factory turbo charging. NHC-250 5 1/2 bore,855 cid.,N.A., was standard equipment in a lot of trucks,back in the day. Back then Cummins also made a Super 250,927 cid,never caught on,only ever saw a couple,crank issues.
Also NTC-335 did not have an aftercooler.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
That botched attempt at the 927 scarred Cummins for life, not once after that would they ever try to go to a longer stroke in the 855.

Well everything ive found researching it says its an 855. I found the manual online and it says 855 as well so im not sure.
