You're gonna wanna be able to back and park regardless of type.
I do not know about the testing points system to pass or fail.

Paralleled was not even required when I took trucking school in the 80's however we made a game of it one week at our school to see which of us 24 could do it properly and fast.

I think I used it a couple of times, feeding maybe 8 parking meters with one to three inches between all wheels and curbing downtown in Cape Cod or some such small town to get breakfast. I just never made a habit of it.

Buy a toy tractor trailer at walmart. about a foot long or bigger. Go home. Get some chalk on your front sidewalk, make a rectangle about yea longer than that toy tractor trailer. Try to parrallel that thing with your hands on just the front steer tires.

You will learn that if you mentally treat the trailer like a car with the front wheels your entire tractor while keeping an eye on all of your corners and mirriors, you WILL do this.

Don;t stress about the tester and his clipboard. If the pencil aint moving you are doing ok. If not, they will tell you and why. AFTER.

 

Depending on the state possibly. In Ohio no. Outside the box means you hit something in real life. Reschedule and practice.

I'm in Idaho so prob some difference... But I have never heard of anyone actually being tested on parallel parking... Only On straight, offset, and 90 degree. But the option for parallel is in the book... Just never heard of a tester in this part of the country requiring it for the test... But as others have said, I would practice more until you can confidently do it and other maneuvers... Just the other day I watched a guy fight for almost an hour to get paralleled into a spot... And I have used the maneuver a time or 2 myself so it is good to know how.

 

In California they give you the straight back, and then pick two of three from 90, offset, and parallel.

@Devilofthemist , what do you mean by out of the box? If you just didn't get it in all the way, maybe, but no guarantees. If you went past any lines (hitting something) and failed to finish in the box, that's usually too many points to pass the test.

When I got my license a guy testing before me did an absolutely perfect straight back, perfect 90, then a perfect offset, but he wasn't paying attention to where he was supposed to stop and backed straight out of the box. Then he honked his horn, signaling he was done, and that failed him. If he had gotten out, realized he had overshot it, and pulled back up he would have been fine.
