Seriously it seems the OP to me is just throwing a fit. She makes it sound like he is in KC and they are handing him a Lewiston, Me run.

Could be wrong as I am not there. Just the tone of her complaints about "that woman". It is not the load being offered, but the "childish dispatcher".

Hey beachin, I have a couple questions, I hope you answer them.

1 - is your husband an employee or a 1099 contractor?

2 - does your husband have a fuel card?

Here is what I have to explain to a bunch of people, dispatching is very easy, I mean it has to be the easiest thing to do in today's world.

I don't find the excuses you told that she uses valid. Honestly I would tell her I don't give a crap about her kids or other responsibilities, she is the contact person and my lively hood is dependent on her.

I also warned people a few times about these cheap mom and pop trucking companies who screw over drivers, people think it is all great that you are a part of their company but the truth is more abuse happens with these low life carriers that with the megas.

One huge and important question that potential drivers and owner/operators needs to ask is about the "dispatcher" and if they are there 24/7. If they are 9 to 5, don't work for the company, they are too cheap to take care of their drivers/owners. It is a big red flag.

 

I generally agree with Ridgeline, except here. My entire office locks up at 5:00 EST. Only breakdown is available after that. We do expect our drivers to be able to "fly" for a few hours on their own without dispatch support.

But then, we also expect our drivers to be either at home, or shutting down for their own breaks within an hour or two of dispatch shutting down. Roll early, roll good, get the job done within regulations, go relax.

 

Ive had several good company owners pull dispatcher in to listen to his or her versions. Little bit of nail biting to see which way the sword will come down.

I consider myself lucky in some ways. One dispatcher in particular though, I raised hell with company leadership and told them straight that dispatcher I am firing him. Find me another.

This pause on the phone was quite something. They were not used to hearing that from a 2 month worker new hire. They found me another.

Ever since that day I could not really be welcome into that dispatch room, there is 10 roughly. The one I fired had a corner desk. There was this stormy zone so to speak of bad thoughts in his range so I stayed away from him.

I never found out what happened in there that day between that dispatcher and owners/leadership but it was enough to ruin any possibility of being able to simply say good morning etc. That's out.

 

It seems like what's going on here is that the truck is making good money in the northeast, and the company doesn't really want to run the truck west for a loss. Short haul rates are VERY good in the northeast right now.

Talk with the company owner and see if they'll find somewhere for him to leave the truck and pay for a flight home and back to the truck. That would probably be a better financial decision for the company, since they won't lose 2 weeks of northeast revenue, and flights are relatively inexpensive.

 

I love the threads when the wife or girlfriend posts. Your husband knows what his options are. Chances are that this isn't his first rodeo. I can't speak for other territories, but small mom and pop companies near my home only hire experience. Here are his options: bend over and take one up the rear and run those loads, wait this out, or wait til he gets back and give them their truck. If he isn't heading towards Arizona now, he's got his work cut out for him. I know I can do New York to Dallas over a weekend, picking Friday, delivering Monday, so you'll need at least a couple more days for Arizona
