Can we have a stickied New CDL driver insurance thread? Maybe someone to post quotes and brokers they are dealing with? Progressive seems to have put a hold on taking new policies so finding a good broker and getting a policy is getting harder. Have you recently had good experience with one and willing to post about the term and rates?

Timmy Fran and ovosquad Thank this.

You mean a new O/O section for insurance? If so then yes I agree. A dedicated section would be good. I don't think many new CDL holders are looking for insurance unless they're becoming an O/O right out of CDL school.

    Timmy Fran Thanks this.

He was on OOIDA referral list and quoted me yesterday.
I only have a Class B in Tx after giving up my CDL about 10 years ago. I just got a 2011 Cascadia and insuring it for $45k.( It only has 293k with a Cummins ISX15 with a APU and Virgin Rubber.I paid $24k for it at an auction. The guy got caught running dope in it at the Border) and buying a new 53 ft Reitnouer drop deck for $60k Progressive quoted $13000 for the year for everything with $1k deductibles.

New venture and I have a clean record but have not even gone back and got my cdl yet. I did have to apply for my USDOT and MC numbers before I could get a quote. OOIDA does the whole program for $1100 (A REAL DEAL). I did it myself and have spent at least 4 hrs on the computer and $700 in fees and I still have more to do. I may give and just let them finish it for a few hundred. Just call him and he can tell you as he writes for numerous companies but the first 2 years will be expensive. Then the rates should drop but with all insurance in two years $13k might be a deal.

I used Thomas Wilson Group out of Brentwood, TN. They insured me as a new entrant, reefer, truck and trailer. They aren’t an insurance company. They are a broker and shop around for you. I’ve been pleased with them.

They may not offer insurance until he reaches that 2 year mark in September. Some insurance carriers are sticklers about that. Those that are willing to issue a policy may charge more than you can afford.

When did you get insurance through them? Apparently the issue we are having is the fact that he has a NEW DOT.
