The ISX is garbage, it shouldn't even be in the Poll.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
I asked the cat that was flattened on the road what it thought, but its mouth wouldn't open.

I was thinking I should have put Scania, or Volvo as an option.

We are quickly approaching, (actually a couple over now) a million miles on all of our fleet trucks, we have not replaced a single turbo, rolled any bearings or replaced any head gaskets, or any other hard parts, DD13's
These motors will easily go the million, HOWEVER, everything else from radiators, wiring harnesses, injectors, sensors, EGR's, etc has been replaced, some more than once!
IOW, what I am saying is the "cost" of the motor getting to the million mile mark is only part of the equation, IF I could put a deleted or non-emissions DD13 in a glider, I would be very happy. -
My opinion, for reliability, is that you can’t go wrong with a pre-EGR 3406E, N-14, or Series 60. There’s plenty of these motors running the highways with 1.5 - 2 million miles on stock guts, no rebuild.
Not sure about the E6/E7 as I didn’t put enough miles on one to know much about dependability.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
In the arctic that mack will be pull starting you

my dad never plugged his in this winter and it started when asked.
Ain't no big block cat but the E7 gets pretty good mpg, 7s across the board. The old E7s will lug and lug and lug.
On a side note did you guys know the 300 maxidyne had 1425tq. All from a 11L while the 1693 and 3406 and 3408s had to be big blocks to achieve that.
Pretty cool if you ask meMACK E-6 and Oldironfan Thank this. -
Running a 3406e 5ek 2.2 million and this thing does it every day. Amazes me. Have an n14 doing the same thing. Not sure on the miles but these old beasts get it done with few problems. 99.9 % of the problems are known and fixable quickly for the most part. Find a real mechanic with experience and you will love these old motors. Anything less than a decade old and they are still figuring out the issues.
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
All the old motors are indestructible if you can turn a wrench and listen to the sound she's making
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Why wasn't the Mack 16-liter big-block MP10 mentioned? It's the largest ever 6-cylinder engine from Mack, with 515, 565, and 605 horsepower . The 605 has a torque rating of 2,060 ft⋅lbf (2,790 N⋅m). at 1,200 RPMs.
