% pay leaves plenty of room for cheating drivers out if money. They just need to email the BOL a couple of times and you are making 25% of $800 instead of 25% of $1500.

I parked my truck last year in anticipation of eld's and took a California intrastate job. 12 & 16 on paper, a chromed out new 389 , health insurance and vacation pay. I'm so happy with what I'm doing that the Cascadia is up for sale. When some kindly recent arrival to our great nation takes it off my hands I will start looking for an older eld exempt truck to fix up in my spare time. If California does go to eld's I'll be ready.

    Where there's a will, there's a way.

Yup construction with good benefits is where it’s at.

Except I got an old w900 mixer. No elds or none of that.

I drive less than 50 miles a day and it’s not boring at all.

Look a little harder there are companies that can and will give you what you desire. I prefer the western states , and the company keeps me there 80% of the runs; I live on the east coast.

Once my 13yo is graduated and off to college or wherever she ends up I will move my home base to Montana, for now I need to see her as often as possible. There are months that I request to stay on the 95 corridor esp if my daughter has time off from school. Now that my oldest has given me a grand it has become harder to want to be in the west.

Keep your eyes open for a small company that has older (pre-2000) trucks. Be selective though, you dont want to be driving unsafe junk and carry that risk. Rather owner op spec. Nice, clean and well taken care of older trucks. 100 percent exempt from eld mandate. That is how I'm able to continue with my career as a driver. I'm only 17 years into it, but it would end tonight if a computer told me I had to stop and sleep at whatever time.

I am kinda liking the new AG Exemtions with Elog, and the new parking exemption.
But paper is much cleaner. And makes good fire starter.
