in that case only one could be open at 180 and the other one at 195 when needed in a pull. I'am thinking it would keep the operating temps. cooler when cruising, and still have good heat in the cab in the winter. -
I would think that having two different temp thermostats in a motor would cause the motor to heat up a little faster when it is running at a normal temp and you pull a hill. Also you might not get enough flow through the theremostats if one is open and the other isn't at a normal temp. I would rather have a 180 or lower stat in my motor. The cooler the motor is the longer it's gonna last.

One cat thermostat flows enough to keep a stock engine temp under control, early 3406E's only had one thermostat from the factory and ran fine.
I would stick with the stock thermostats unless you run in extreme heat, a lot of guys out here that run west with road trains put lower temp thermostat in because the heat cause the engine to get hot on a long pull. if you want to keep the temps down you also have to install a horton switch to bring the fan on earlier, otherwise you will still get to the same temp on a pull (in summer weather) regardless of the thermostat temp. -
I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think the reasoning for two thermostats is so if one stuck shut the motor wouldn't fry before you got it stopped. The likelyhood of both of them sticking at the sametime is nill. As far as running two different temperature stats..........I wouldn't. The motor is going to run at the cooler thermostats tempersture setting until temps rose under a long hard pull. The early E model did just have a single stat, that was much larger in diameter..........to be able to flow the proper amount of water when fully open.

An early E model with ser # prefix 5EK will use a single stat with part # 7C-3095. But does use the same seal as the C-15's.........so it is the same diameter.
A later E model with a ser # prefix 1LW will have two stats with part # 247-7133 this is the same stat as a C15 also.Last edited: Jan 19, 2009
Onemanshow Thanks this. -
7C3095 and 2477133 are the same part, the 2477133 is just an update on the 7C3095. If you go into cat "numerical part record" it tells you 2477133 replaces 7C3095 and you can use either thermostat in either engine.
