Not about Swift, but Star Trek.

Has anyone else noticed the major flaw in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan ?

My daughter Leann is on the truck with me this month. We started watching Star Trek, the original series.
Late in season 1 is the episode Space Seed, which is the Khan episode.

I hadn't seen the original series in years, and it never hit me until now.
As we were watching Space Seed I realized that something was wrong, because someone was not present on the Enterprise at the time.

Walter Koenig's character Checkov hadn't been added to the cast until AFTER Ricardo Montalban's appearance as Khan in "Space Seed".

So there should be no canonical way for Khan to recognize Checkov in the movie, which takes place what? 20 years (in timeline) after the events of "Space Seed"?

Bean Jr., Moosetek13 and daf105paccar Thank this.

He may have been on the ship just not a bridge officer or not on camera.

Nope. Walter Koenig didn't join the cast until the following season as a very junior bridge officer out of Starfleet Academy.

It ended up being Koenig's most hated role. Of all the regular cast members, Koenig is least likely to ever attend a Star Trek convention. He much preferred his time on Babylon 5. One of the season's he has given was the completely over the top Russian stereotype he was cast to play. A stereotype that was continued in the Checkov character during the reboot (played by Anton Yelchin, a fantastic young actor we lost far to early).

Walter is the actor that plays Chekov.
    Also Bester in Bab 5.

Khan was smarter then average, to think he wouldn't research or find out as much about his enemy Kirk and the Enterprise etc. while formulating his plan and before going after them, is just silly. One would think in the computer future that Star Trek lives in, there is also a large amount of freedom of information or he is smart enough to bribe or hack his way into finding out.

He did not have access to computers on that planet, but he did show his stuff when he learned enough about the ship to take it over in that first episode.

The point was that Chekov was not aboard the Enterprise at that time, yet Khan said he remembered him.
